There is now an official NDYakAngler Facebook page! I’ll leave a link below and I’ve updated the link on my main YouTube page. Check it out if you’re on Facebook! There’s only a handful of pics posted there now but as we get into open water season I’ll be linking my uploads and posting pics and video clips from my adventures!
Exciting day today it’s new kayak day! Big thanks to Hi Tempo Snowsports & Watersports for providing me with an awesome new Hobie Compass to fish from! I still plan on using the Tarpon on shallow stretches of river but the Compass will be a valuable tool for extending my range and letting me cover more water on lakes, allow me to fish hands free, and should be a much more stable platform than my current kayak when I want to stand up and look around. No sign of spring here yet so it might be a while for open water but I’m looking forward to getting the Hobie out and giving it a try!
I apologize for the lack of videos the past couple months. I’ve been trying, made about 15 trips to various spots and put over 3,000 miles on my truck but the fish just haven’t been cooperating and productive spots around dams have been too packed with people to try to film. Finally yesterday I got on a crappie bite and spent most of a perfect day catching some really nice ones. I maintained strict camera discipline (not moving my head around too much) for about five hours and was really happy with the footage I got. And then I got home to find out my mic has developed a short and the footage is trash. To say I’m stressed out, frustrated, and disappointed would be an understatement.
I think my biggest fear of doing this for a living is coming true, that it would become work and lose a lot of its enjoyment. Lately I can’t go fishing without stressing the whole time that I need to make something happen. At this point I honestly don’t know what I’m going to do. The forecast doesn’t look great the next two weeks so I doubt I’ll get much of a chance to try to film on the water again any time soon. After the last couple months I kind of feel like a one trick pony anyway and all I’m good at is summertime bass fishing. I might just need to take some time off from trying, clear my mind, and wait for the water to warm up.
My girlfriend and I have a baby due in June. I’m extremely excited to be a dad but at the same time I can’t help but wonder how I’ll provide for my family the way things have been going lately. I’ve been so lucky to be able to do what I love for a job the past year and I do love doing this when times aren’t so tough. It might be time for me to come back from fantasy land though and consider getting a real job again. I’m not saying this is the end of my channel, it’s just another option I’ve been considering.
Sorry to vent, I just needed to let that out and there’s a lot of people who have been wondering where I am. For everyone asking when the next NDYakAngler video will be out, I don’t know.
I can’t believe this happened today! A huge thanks to all of you who watch my videos and help my channel grow! I’m going to keep doing what I do and I’ll see you on the water!
Lake Mille Lacs - definitely a challenge fishing it from a kayak but @JaggedToothTackle and myself never gave up through an excruciatingly slow day of fishing and were rewarded with a last hour of light flurry of shallow water smallies that were hungry for topwater!
