I know that this week was supposed to be an Olive short, but I found this song and it just fit too well with a different story I've been working on that I had to make it.
For those unawares, I posted a horror story on the Tales From the Creeps subreddit about a detective trying to find a missing woman at the mysterious Carnival of the Cursed. If you missed it, here's the link: www.reddit.com/r/TalesFromTheCreeps/comments/1qslo…
This is actually a part of a much larger story I have called "Asylum". Asylum centers around the various people that work at the Carnival of the Cursed, led by the ringmaster Madam Penumbra pictured below, and how they deal with their conditions, specifically focusing on a new amnesiac addition to their ranks. It's a very fun story, and I wish to share more of it in the future, but this little taste is where it's gonna be left at for now. Lord knows I already have enough stories to juggle on the channel.
While working on a recent project, I made updated drawings for the main characters of Who is Olive McGuire?, and I thought it would be cool to share them with you guys! We've got Olive/Void (both costume iterations), Zoe, Pixie, Matt, Virgo, Mr Lichtenstein, Providence, and Tony. Hmm, I feel like s̸o̵m̵e̸o̷n̵e̵'̵s̶ missing...
Welp, no time to dwell on that! Have a great day, ya'll!
Even though Byron can often mess up (*cough cough* Vox Populi), he tries his best to make sure that Jillian isn't exposed to more adult things like violence and swearing, as he wants to make sure Jillian gets the chance to be a kid who doesn't constantly experience the darker parts of the world. Void does not care, or at least, he doesn't care until Byron starts putting the fear of God in him to watch his mouth.
Also, pretty sure Jillian already knew that word from overhearing it in her mother's study.
Hey everybody, wanted to do something a little fun today and take a stroll through "Who is Olive McGuire?"'s cutting room floor. Since this story is almost 7 years old at this point, there have been a lot of ideas and characters I've come up with that had to be cut for one reason or another. I thought it would be cool to showcase some of the more interesting Dusks that got cut, since they likely won't ever see the light of day.
[OLD ASS ART ALERT]
* Ripley and Furnace - Originally, Bloom and Stalker were a part of a bounty hunting quartet that would've acted as primary antagonists, having been hired by Crow to hunt down Olive. However, I then created Tony, and found him a much more intriguing antagonist, so he ended up becoming Crow's primary henchmen instead. Bloom and Stalker only survived because I found their romance and dynamic very fun. Ripley and Furnace would've been the in universe inspirations for Jack the Ripper and Spring Heeled Jack, respectively. Ripley was a cold and clinical doctor with a love of dismemberment, and Furnace would've been a manic and gleeful arsonist. Ripley's aspects would later be recycled into a different character that I have yet to show off, the zombie raising Dr Lazarus
* Army Brat - Ward's daughter, being trained to be an ultimate soldier while also trying to rebel against her father and become her own person. She was intended to show off an early concept with Nightingveil called Doppelgängers, where some people in the human world had a mirrored Dusk in Nightingveil. Army Brat specifically was a mirror to one of Olive's classmates named Amy, and they would kinda have a Prince and Pauper type episode. However, I cut it because I couldn't figure out why some people had Doppelgängers and some didn't, and just thought it muddied up the lore. Thus, Army Brat and Amy both ended up cut
* Sandman - Yes, THE Sandman. He was supposed to be an uber powerful Dusk on the same level as Selene and Crow, being the Dusk of dreams to counter Crow's nightmares. As beautiful and as cold as a marble statue, he was a silent ally to Olive to help in the fight against Crow. However, I cut him because I wanted Crow to have free real estate of dreams in the story, and I couldn't figure out why Sandman didn't ever take out Crow himself. Besides, a lot of his aspects just ended up getting reused into Selene herself.
* Fury - A wrathful dragon Dusk with the ability to vomit lava, armed with red hot claws that could cut through anything. She was intended to be part of a D&D spoof episode, where Olive, Zoe, and Pixie would be a classic heroes party tasked with slaying the dragon. She got cut for two reasons: 1) I had too many fire-themed Dusks, and they either fit the vibe I wanted for Nightingveil better (Firefighter) or were more character relevant (Hellhound). 2) The episode would've actually been set in a medieval section of Nightingveil itself, but I eventually decided I didn't want the human characters to be able to enter Nightingveil early on in the story.
* Quill - A creative gargoyle-like Dusk that haunted the local kindergarten in Tarot Hills, using paper and ink to create enemies for Void to fight. I still really like his design, but also I had enough child Dusks in the form of Coven and Raine, so he felt kinda extraneous. Besides, I couldn't figure out what fear he was supposed to embody. He was supposed to be part of an episode with Zoe, as Zoe was originally Olive's younger, kindergarten-age sister, where Zoe would use Quill as a racket to essentially become a pint-sized mob boss that ruled the kindergarten with an iron fist. When Zoe got aged up, I recycled parts of that dynamic into Bambi and Coven.
* Black Beauty - I have a personal rule to try and put a dinosaur in every one of my stories somehow, and Black Beauty was my attempt to do that. A phantom dinosaur that would essentially cause a Godzilla spoof in Tarot Hills as it ran right through buildings, leaving them soaked in ectoplasm. However, I thought the idea was a bit too... goofy? Plus, like Quill, I couldn't think of what fear she would embody. I guess a funny tidbit is that Bones Malone would've been the one trying to corral Black Beauty as well, as he was the one that unleashed her as part of another boneheaded scheme.
Hope that was at least sort of interesting to read, and that it gave you guys a taste of the writing process for these types of stories. I hope you guys have a great day!
Ricochet had the Revolver try an exercise of venting their feelings to photos of the other alters. Of course, Eddie and Dallas had less than nice things to say about each other.
Dallas just wants Eddie to see him as his own person and thinks that he's too harsh on him, but refuses to acknowledge that what he's done has hurt Eddie and the rest of the system because it reminds him that he's technically not a full "person". Eddie wants Dallas to just disappear from his life for all the trouble he caused him, and refuses to see Dallas as anything other than a monster. Sadly, Ricochet is not well versed in mental health enough to get them to fully reconcile, at least not yet. Maybe one day...
Bambi is quite happy she has her own Dusk to do her bidding, but she finds it a tad annoying that she has to teach Coven the ropes on the modern world. However, her babysitting prowess usually allows these teaching moments to be (mostly) painless. She does enjoy Coven's company, especially after her family's past coming to light caused her friend group to dwindle, and Coven very much enjoys Bambi's company as well.
Also, Coven did NOT, in fact, enjoy the Crucible, but she wanted to be brave for Bambi so she didn't say anything.
Hey, uh, do you guys remember my "Bleeding Onion" video from over a year ago, with Eddie and Ricochet?
Well, the person who originally told the story I used in the video, @pumpkinpotion, just reacted to it on stream two days ago!!!! It was very cool and I am so honored and I'm very happy that Pumpkin and everybody else seemed to enjoy it! I literally was kicking my feet watching the vod, it was so cool!
Everybody go check Pumpkin out if you haven't already!
This video introduced Axel Sinclair, a monster hunter who's replaced most of his body with steam powered machinery in order to bag the one beast he has yet to kill: a Reaper. When he had heard about Byron traveling in the mortal realm again, he decided to take his shot, kidnapping Jillian to use as bait. It seemed to work a bit too well. The only thing that prevented his death right then and there was Jillian's interference, and he was simply left where he laid to lick his wounds. But nobody can keep a good hunter down for long...
This is the point in the story when Jillian sees firsthand that the person who is taking care of her is a literal force of death and devastation, and it doesn't exactly make her feel safe despite what Byron hoped. Jillian does not like death, as it's something she has plenty of experience with already...
Hugo is the most famous outlaw in GoldClaw (roll credits), and although it's mostly infamy from his various robberies, his tendency to help people out through Robin Hood type shenanigans and fighting other outlaws has also led to him getting many genuine fans. Hugo is very perturbed by the fact some people look up to him, as although he always appreciates the ego boost, he is also the first person to tell you that he is not a good person. He's a greedy bastard with a tendency towards pride and has a reputation as heart breaker. The thought of people actually seeing him as a hero is something he has a hard time accepting, even from his own posse.
Penny is his number one cheerleader, however, and will always take the chance to showcase how good of a person Hugo is, despite his attempts to sabotage himself.
