A little flashback to when Byron was on the job, and he had to deal with a spelunker that got stuck in a place Byron couldn't reach. I think it was called Lloyd's Coffin or something like that? Byron isn't really the best at shifting his physical form, so he eventually had to get Void's help to squeeze in there and get the soul out.
This is probably one of Byron's more humorous stories from on the job, and is one that Void has told Jillian multiple times (mostly to boast about how his big brother depends on him). It goes to show that even if violent deaths are often depressing, sometimes there's humor to be had in all the dumb ways people can meet gruesome ends.
Ricochet thought that maybe some friendly competition between the alters would be good for them, so she tried to put on a game night. It went downhill fast. Abel crashed out hard (he hates random chance), Dallas kept trying to cheat in any way he could, and Barnaby somehow took home the win even though nobody could decide what game they were even playing. Barnaby just has that kind of natural luck in card games.
But hey, at least they didn't play Monopoly. THAT would've been a blood bath.
First, a little health update. I finally had surgery on my toe and currently recovering from that. I got the procedure that makes it so it will never get ingrown again, which is amazing, even if I was chewed out by my mom for letting it get so bad (Love you ma).
But onto the actual short. Olive sometimes encounters civilians during her time as Void, who either scream and yell in fear, ask her questions, or geek out about her. When they actually turn out to be friendly, Olive feels like it would be rude to bail without saying anything, even if the thought of having to talk to civilians is scarier than fighting Dusks. When they aren't friendly, she usually just pulls the disappearing act without engaging. However, anytime Eulalie specifically tries to "interview" her, Olive has to resist the urge to send her into the stratosphere, as that would be bad for her public image. She settles on just destroying her camera and disappearing.
No short today, as I'm taking a little vacation for myself to unwind and rest this week. Probably won't be one next week either, since I won't be back in time to make one. Not gonna apologize for that, since last time I apologized you guys all (lovingly) yelled at me in the comments. In all seriousness, thank you all for the support on the last post, I really do appreciate it.
Speaking of, my toe is... well not great, as it did turn out to be infected. But at the very least it's getting treated! Hopefully these antibiotics and an upcoming doctor's appointment will nip it in the bud.
Since there is no short, I decided it would be fun to share some of the art that I've been doing lately when I've had the energy. The first picture is a superhero duo called LoveTap and BlastCap, with LoveTap being a former member of a superhero team trying to find her footing after a rocky departure from said team, and BlastCap being a robotic henchman of a villain deciding to try and become a hero and his own person. Still in beginning stages with this story.
The second is a vent piece I made that actually turned out REALLY good. Like, I was not expecting to cook that hard for something meant to just get some complicated feelings out. Just wanted to capture the feeling of having a bunch of chaotic and conflicting emotions trapped behind someone's visage that all want to escape.
Anyways, I hope you guys enjoy the art, and have a great day!
Um, hey everybody. So my plan today was to make the short for tomorrow. God apparently decided that wasn’t happening, as now I’m going to the ER.
Before y’all freak out too bad, my life is not in danger. My toe just thought today was a good day to split open and bleed everywhere. Like, it’s bad, but I’m gonna be fine once it’s taken care of. It’s just gonna eat up all the time I thought I had today. Honestly, it’s my own dang fault. Word of advice: if you have an ingrown toenail, get it checked out BEFORE it decides to bleed all over your sandals.
So, yeah, tomorrow’s short is no longer happening. I’m so sorry for the inconvenience. Love you guys, and have a good day!
I always tend to draw Hugo jumping off cliffs as his primary method of escape, so with this "Alter Ego" trend, I felt it was pretty apt to have Specter show off his method of falling with style.
Of course, outside of the Lawmen, nobody has actually seen Hugo pull off this impossible escape route. Penny obviously believes him, but even with all of the stunts he's seen Hugo pull, Beckham refuses to believe him whenever he makes these claims. I mean, Hugo may be a death-defying outlaw of legend, but he's not immortal. How would he even pull any of these jumps off without ending up six feet under? The world may never know...
(Also, thank you guys so, so much for all the love and encouragement on my last post. I really needed that. You are all such kind, amazing souls.)
Hey everybody, just wanted to let you guys in on some things happening behind the scenes.
To be frank, I have been struggling lately. I went through a traumatic event earlier on in the year, and I'm still dealing with the aftermath of that. I can't get into much specifics, but it upended some things that I have relied on and trusted for most of my life and made me realize some hard truths about myself. I am trying out anxiety meds to help with both my general anxiety and the PTSD/panic attacks I've been having since what happened. I have been doing a bit better as of late, connecting with my family and having their wonderful support, but life has also been throwing a lot of curveballs and major events into my life that have made things harder to deal with.
That's all to say that since the 111 Winchester video was completed, I have been in a creative drought. My brain has basically just been stuck in survival mode and hasn't been able to do much outside of the shorts. I've been trying to work on projects, but I haven't been able to really accomplish much or enjoy what I do. I can't even work on most of my personal projects anymore.
I'm hoping the meds help me get my groove back, or some divine inspiration strikes me, but for the time being, I'm not sure I'll be able to do any longer videos in the near future. I hope you guys understand and are patient with me, and I'm still so thankful that you have gotten me to where I am today. Ya'll are amazing.
Finn rode the high of impressing Garnet-er, knowing something Garnet didn't for a whole week after this. Garnet even got a little annoyed of how proud of himself he was (although, she found his smug smile to be weirdly endearing).
If you hadn't noticed, I wrote another horror story centered around a mysterious man named Mr. Styx telling strange stories to a waitress at a rinky-dink diner. If the short intrigued you and you haven't read it yet, here's the link! It's three parts long, and I'm very happy with how it turned out.
The song I used in the short was actually the inspiration for Mr. Styx, so like the Carnival of the Cursed, I thought making a tie-in short would be fun. Also like Carnival of the Cursed, this short story is tied into a much larger story in the CurseVerse called "Crossroads Diner", where Mr. Styx plays a major role. It's about a family diner built on the crossroads where the strange and supernatural can crossover, whose patrons can range from a rat king in a trench coat, werewolves dealing with lunar hangovers, and something behind the dumpster that is somehow the best tipper. Mr. Styx is also a regular there, with deep ties to the family running it, but that's all I'll say on that for now.
