HEY THERE, FRIENDS & NEIGHBOURS. My sincere apologies for the truly HORRIBLE AI overdub that frankly ruined a video that took a great deal of work to begin with. I think I've fixed the problem with yesterday's video, and I'll make sure that TRASH is NEVER heard on this channel again. I am not impressed.
The first single from my new album NYAEBA is out TODAY, and I can't wait for you to hear it. Click the link below to hear my song UKUDLALA!
AND
Watch this space for the release of my second single, "HEART OF A LONELY WOMAN", next week on August 22nd. Spread the word, my dear friends and neighbours. You're gonna love this music. This is not your average electric bass album.
I'm currently on the road for the next couple of weeks with Steve Coleman and Five Elements. Once I get home, I'll be back with more lessons. Until then, check out the dates below. Maybe I'll see you in your neighbourhood. If not, keep on practising and stay tuned to The Brown'stone.
peace & love rich

I hope you're all doing very well. The one question I get asked more than any other is, "Do you give private lessons?" The answer has been no (for the most part), but I'm seriously considering the idea of taking on private students (of all levels) sometime within the next few months. I know these YT posts won't reach a majority of my friends and neighbours, but I am wondering how many of you would be into taking private one-on-one lessons with me online.

I know it’s been a long time. Things have been as busy as ever with teaching, touring, and...well, life-ing. But, today I’m making a special offer to you. My friends at Driftwood Theatre are holding their Adventure Auction, and I’m honoured to help them out by offering a special private lesson with me as an auction item. Driftwood Theatre has been a passionate arts producer across the province for almost 30 years, and they continue to foster great storytelling in a joyful, inclusive environment. I don’t offer many private lessons, so here’s your chance! Bid on this offer (in the link below) and help Driftwood continue its mission to bring good people together to share great stories. (Driftwood Theatre is a registered charitable, non-profit arts organization.)
Make your bid now! This auction will close on October 20th.
Have you seen this? I love a good bass solo, but it has to tell a story. It has to be melodic. What do you think? Check out this video. (Yes! I'm featured in this one. Thanks, SBL🙏🏾❤️)
It's been a very long time, but you're still here liking, commenting, subscribing, donating, and supporting the channel. I can't thank you all enough. Things have been super-busy these last couple of months. I haven't even had time to celebrate the fact that YOU helped this channel reach the wonderful milestone of ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND SUBSCRIBERS! 😃🥹 You're amazing!!!
The next 2 weeks are going to be crazy as I'll be in and out of the country. Next week, I'm off to Cape Verde with Steve Coleman & Five Elements. But I have A LOT planned for The Brown'stone upon my return. Here's what you can expect to see starting next month:
- more lessons in The Beginners' Series - more lessons for 5-string players - more lessons for 6-string players - more on how to create killer bass lines - more lessons on rhythm and groove
Is there anything else you'd like to see? Let me know.
I can't thank you all enough for your support. This channel is nothing without you.🙏🏾❤️
The question about strings has come up a few times recently. The strings I use are nickel-wound Super Brights made by Jim Dunlop Manufacturing. I find nickel to be more expressive without being too bright. I also use a lighter gauge. This is mainly because I play with a fair amount of vibrato and find the thinner strings easier to push and pull. I use nickel round-wound strings on all but one of my basses. I have a beautiful semi-acoustic fretless that came with nylon flat-wounds, and I love the sound of those strings.
What strings are you using? What's your preference?
Merci beaucoup d'avoir regardé ! paix Amour Riche
Hello, friends and neighbours. Welcome back to the Brown'stone!
With the help of my friend Marco Elwray, my French friends and neighbours will soon be able to watch selected videos on this channel with French subtitles. I'm very excited about this. We're starting with the Beginner's Series. The first lesson (linked below) is now available with French subtitles. We'll continue with the series, and see where that takes us moving forward. To my French-speaking friends and neighbours, I hope this helps to give you a better understanding of the lessons here at The Brown'stone.
