The answer has been no (for the most part), but I'm seriously considering the idea of taking on private students (of all levels) sometime within the next few months. The question about strings has come up a few times recently. The strings I use are nickel-wound Super Brights made by Jim Dunlop Manufacturing. I find nickel to be more expressive without being too bright. I also use a lighter gauge. This is mainly because I play with a fair amount of vibrato and find the thinner strings easier to push and pull. I use nickel round-wound strings on all but one of my basses. I have a beautiful semi-acoustic fretless that came with nylon flat-wounds, and I love the sound of those strings.
