On November 24, 2009, John Edward Jones, a 26-year-old man, went exploring inside Nutty Putty Cave. He entered a very narrow, unmapped passage, thinking it was the correct route. However, the space became too tight, and he got stuck upside down in a small hole measuring about 10 by 18 inches.

John was trapped nearly 400 feet from the cave entrance. Rescue teams arrived quickly and worked for many hours to save him. They set up a rope and pulley system to pull him out. At one point, the system failed, causing him to slip deeper into the narrow passage, which made rescue even more difficult.

Rescuers provided him with oxygen and fluids and stayed in constant communication to keep him calm. Despite all efforts, being stuck upside down for such a long time put extreme pressure on his body.

After about 27 hours, on November 25, 2009, John suffered cardiac arrest and passed away inside the cave. Due to the risk, his body could not be recovered, and the cave was permanently sealed, becoming his final resting place.
