Eight Of Cups ~ Walking Away, Moving On πββοΈπΆββοΈββ‘οΈπ§³π₯π’ππ₯ΉπβοΈβπ₯
We have reached the Eight of cups on our Minor Arcana Tarot Journey. Emotions are difficult, and the eight of cups represents a very heavy heart and some of the most difficult times in the hero's journey.
The Eight of Cups card is about walking away from a situation that is no longer serving us. The cups are all stacked, the situation has been mulled over, and over, and the mountains of confusion in the background symbolize how we cannot continue to grow and follow our highest path if we allow ourselves to stay stuck.
Leaving behind someone we love, is one of the most painful things we ever will have to do, especially when there is a history with that person. The Hero leans on her staff to support her as she heads into the unknown, with the moon as her guiding light.
It could be a career we are leaving behind, and we mourn because of all the energy we put into it, the friends we made along the way, and the feeling of loss that is inevitable with this card.
This card is sad. Leaving someone or something you love is sad. This card honors that emotion. But just like with every phase of our hero's journey, there is always a happy card coming next, after we have dealt with some heavy emotional baggage that needed to be released.
The minor arcana cards help us to navigate life's path, with all the layers happening simultaneously. The cups cards helps us glimpse into the emotional layer, and makes sense of it.
On our cups journey, which is one dimension of our overall hero's journey, representing the intuition and emotions, we have reached the six card.
In numerology, 6's are numbers of harmony and balance, unlike the 5 cards which are troublesome and tumultuous.
The six of cups is the most nostalgic card in the entire tarot. It depicts two young people, the male being older, and a younger female. It denotes a sense of tenderness and familiar love.
This card could symbolize a longing for a past relationship, or a newfound love that feels safe and intimate.
My favorite quote that summarizes this feeling for me, is by Ralph Waldo Emerson:
"A person of related mind, a brother or sister by nature, comes to us so softly and easily, so nearly and intimately, as if it were the blood in our proper veins, that we feel as if some one was gone, instead of another having come; we are utterly relieved and refreshed; it is a sort of joyful solitude.β
The six of cups is the sweetest, most romantic card in the tarot, because it is a homecoming of the heart. We have found a person who makes us feel safer than if we were alone, and truly seen, loved, and understood.
It's the epitome of love, what we yearn for, and if it is lost, we reminisce and long for the happier times of the past.
The warning with this card is not to get caught in the past...It could also indicate that someone or something from your past is attempting to make a comeback...
Five of Cups ~ Suffering and emotional loss πβΉοΈππ₯Ήπ₯²πππ¦ββ¬π€β«π
We have now arrived at the five of cups. The suit of cups is an emotional journey, bringing light to the array of feelings we experience. The emotional body is one layer we experience, while simultaneously experiencing the other suits, the swords (the mental realm), the wands (the passion of the spirit), and the pentacles (the worldly outer cirmcumstances and physical body)...
The 5 of cups depicts a sense of loss. There are three cups that have been spilled, signifying a deep and profound sense of longing or grieving over what we no longer have...
Even though there are two full cups still standing, and full, the hero cannot see them, because they are so caught up in the tragedy of what is missing. It's a feeling of unfulfillment, sadness, and misfortune.
With any of the minor arcana cards, these are fleeting moments on our journey, not a place to be stuck. It is important to take the time to mourn, so that we will heal and move forward, to see what we still do have, and the good that is coming in next.
Experiencing trauma or death or deep emotional upset is a process and is hard to let go of, especially for those who feel things really deeply. The bridge in the background represents a way for us to get over this, to move forward, and transform the suffering into something new and beautiful.
The hero's journey is long and winding, full of highs and lows and in-betweens. Our next card is one of the sweetest cards in the entire tarot, the six of cups!
TWO OF CUPS ~ The Perfect Partner coming into your life ππΌπΊπΌπ§ππ¦
The two of cups brings the promise of a new love partnership. The two cards all represent the coming together of two people. Particularly with the cups, this most likely indicates a love relationship, where two people choose each other. The two of cups are like two halves finding wholeness in each other. It is a reciprical relationship, where both people may feel flawed as individuals, but when coming together, they are more than whole. The winged red lion represents the alchemical marriage that emerges from this kind of union. The caduceus symbolizes the merging of the physical and the spiritual world. This is a relationship that feels effortless and inevitable. There is a strong mutual attraction. This card promises a union that is emotionally fulfilling and is supported by universal forces.
When two people are brought together in this way, there is no promise of how long the union will last, that will be dependent on the individuals, the choices they make, and if they continue to choose the other as their partner. All we can do is enjoy the moment, and make the most of our predicament.
Let's see where the suit of cups leads us next, with the 3 of cups coming up!
ACE OF CUPS ~ the ideal emotional state of being π¦
The Ace of Cups is our first minor arcana card we enocounter as we embark back on our tarot journey. The Ace (1) is the start of something new, about to occur in our experience. The Ace is also the ideal of it's suit, so when you pull any of the Ace cards in the tarot deck, it is a very magical and positive omen.
Since the cups refer to emotions, the ace of cups signifies the perfect emotional state, when something new is blossoming, particulartly love. The Ace of Cups card could indicate that new love is about to come into your life (or already has).
Whatever the situation, there is the potential for emotional fulfilment, and the emotions are aroused in a very positive way.
As with the major arcana, you will find that the minor arcana cards build upon each other, and as we make our way through all of them, there will be ups and downs, but at the end of the road, we have an expanded awareness, which is the ultimate goal. Ace of Cups is a delightful emotional state to find yourself in.
Our next card is the two of cups, let's see what the next step of the journey is... stay tuned...
Back To The Tarot Journey ~ With the Suit of Cups π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯π«π«π«Welcome back Tarot Lovers, to our Tarot Journey! Now that we've covered the Major Arcana (the major, life altering cards), now we can take a closer look at the day to day situations we find ourselves in, and gain some new insights.
There are 4 suits in the minor arcana, the cups, the wands, the swords, and the pentacles. These are numbered ace through ten, the basic numerology will be seen across all suits, but each suit has it's own theme.
The theme of the cups suit, which is where we are starting, is EMOTIONS. The cups card represent our emotional state of being, whereas the sword cards represent our THINKING state. The Pentacles symbolize our PHYSICAL STATE of affairs, and the wands represent our PASSION, our CREATIVITY, and that which drives us from our core.
In addition to the 10 minor arcana cards in each suit, we have four COURT CARDS. The Page, The Knight, The Queen, and The King. Unlike the meanings of the minor arcana, the Court cards represent different people or personality traits, so they are more specific to characters in your life, they could also represent an aspect of your own character.
With that in mind, let's begin our minor arcana tarot journey with the suit of Cups, knowing that all of these cards pertain to our emotional state.
We are rapidly approaching Valentine's Day ~ and it is all about LOVE ~ in all it's myriad forms. In this series, let's explore different aspects of Love. πππ
I love the concept of "head in the clouds" ~ a saying that is usually used to address dreamers and snap them back to "reality". But when it comes to love, there is nothing to keep our feet on the ground.
When we fall in love, it is as if we are lifted up, unable to think about anything else...we literally seem to have our head in the clouds...
We don't have to be romantically falling in love to feel this way. There are times when it is nice to give ourselves permission to dream, fantasize, and see the world through rose colored glasses, just because it feels good.
With two weeks until Valentine's Day, it is time to release this feel good energy, to imagine, to create, to do whatever makes us feel alive, even if it makes no sense and doesn't relate to our daily lives in any way.
The essence of love and feeling good, and healing, is creating. So whatever artform you prefer, do it! Paint something, write something, design something, cook something, sing something, dance something....
Create something brand new that's never been done before. Just for enjoyment, not to be practical, just to be fun.
Take a bubble bath, with your favorite glass of wine, and dream about something you would love to do, go ahead, get your head in the clouds. Love thrives in this creative environment!
What a journey it's been. We made it ~ to the final character in the Major Arcana of the Tarot. Our Hero's Journey has reached it's ending.
THE WORLD card shows up when we have finished a phase in our life. We have tied up all the loose ends, there will be no need to ever go back in the past or repeat old patterns, because the lessons have been learned and integrated.
The Fool has accomplished the Hero's Journey, and has gone through a transformation. Many lessons had to be learned the hard way. Many trials that were painful, but all has now been transmuted into wisdom.
The Fool is no longer the same person she was when she set out on her journey. And even though parts of her died along the way, it was only to make way for a better version of herself to emerge.
The Fool, having completed this phase of her life, now faces a brand new beginning. She may not know what lies ahead, in some new way, she will again become the Fool, and relive the excitement and drama of the whole adventure, but from a higher plane.
But for now she will celebrate the completion of the circle. If this were a fairy tale, the Fool would now live happily ever after. Knowing what the Fool now knows, she looks forward to many more adventures, on the never ending upward spiral of life.
Thank you for following along on the Hero's Jouney. We covered the 22 major arcana cards, which symbolize the big, transformative parts of our life's journey. But there are still many nuances to life's journey, the day to day thoughts, emotions, desires, and physical experiences. These are depicted in the minor arcana cards.
And we also have the court cards, which represent characters in our life. At some point in the near future, we will delve into the remaining cards of the tarot deck. Congratulations for making it to the end of the hero's journey.
I look forward to our next adventure together, the COURT CARDS!
The hero's journey is reaching a pinnacle as we encounter the JUDGEMENT card, the second to last major arcana card.
JUDGEMENT arrives after we have been tested by illusions, after we have shed parts of our ego that were holding us back, and once we have completed the cycle of birth, death, and rebirth.
It is time to look at our lives with an overview perspective. It's time for the Fool to choose consciously how she will move forward, having forgiven the mistakes of the past, counted her lessons, and reflected on the meaning of her journey.
The JUDGEMENT card represents the Fool judging herself, and her world, with the eyes of compassion, and not seeing herself or others for the mistakes we have made, but seeing herself and her world with new eyes.
The Fool realizes that her inner conscience is the one that judges, and rather than be critical, it is liberating to relax her rigid opinions, and allow everything to be as it is, knowing that there is a grander plan being orchestrated, of which she and everyone is a part of. There is no good or bad, there is just everyone at different stages of their journey, and all will eventually awaken and arrive at the crowning point of love and acceptance.
The people are rising out of their tombs at the sound of the angel blowing her trumpet, to symbolize that nothing is ever lost, and we all will be reborn again and again, to higher and higher degrees of livingness, in one form or another, forever and ever. It is a card of eternal life, because we never stop growing and expanding.
