Amazon Smbhav began in 2020 as a mega summit for small businesses, entrepreneurs and innovators. At the inaugural summit, Amazon pledged to digitize 10 million MSMEs, generate $10 billion in cumulative exports from India and create 2 million jobs in India by 2025.
At the 2021 Summit, Amazon made a series of announcements including the launch of a $250 million Amazon Smbhav Venture Fund to invest in startups, the launch of Spotlight North East program and Amazon’s commitment to onboard 1 million local neighbourhood stores on Amazon.in by 2025.
In 2022, Amazon India is well on track to fulfilling its key pledges for the country. The e-commerce giant announced to have cumulatively created more than 11.6 lakh direct and indirect jobs, enabled around $5 billion of cumulative exports, and digitized over 40 lakh MSMEs in India to date. Smart Commerce is a new initiative launched to transform local stores into digital stores in a bid to digitize one crore small businesses by 2025.
