Do you like cats? 👀 😸 I had a great time chatting with @catsuitmuse about cats and drawing stylized characters on her podcast - 6 Degreees of Cats! Listen to the latest episode featuring me and a couple other creatives here: pod.link/6degreesofcats

WOW... I didn't expect so many of you to enjoy the animation breakdown I did! Even though It took me a week to break down the movements, I had a ton of fun making it.

IF you want to take a closer look yourself, I uploaded the Procreate Dreams files along with the individual frames on my Patreon! You can subscribe or just grab them individually for just $3! (I also threw in my newest Procreate Sketching brush xD)

I definitely have some more animation content planned (as well as a few unreleased personal animations to share) So make sure to subscribe if you haven't already!

I think the crushing moment of reality concerning Ai will hit many of us at a unique time. For me, I’m guessing whenever Glen Keane or Jin Kim sketches can get instantly replicated with Ai, and actually look good. I have always studied from them and a few other animators for awhile. In my head, they were the standard, perfect guides to stylize the most expressive characters. (IMO of course) I remember thinking to myself, “If only I could emulate a fraction of this someday”, I knew I would feel satisfied.

Today, I hate to think that so many new artists might make a tough decision. A decision to completely abandon their journey and miss out on experiences like that. Experiences where you suddenly achieve what only seemed like a dream to you. To get closer and feel the nervous shiver that you might actually have what it takes to do what you want. All because of an overwhelming feeling that it’s all worthless. These experiences shape us on our journey and are just as important anything that you would make. And it can never be taken away.

Emotion, our soul and spirit and all the energy we pour into our creations. Emotion is the last we can hold onto as unique to us - no matter what. I think it's worth it to say it should be the first thing we should cherish. The value of art and ourselves as artists has never been so little as to be replaced overnight.

If you made it this far, let me know if you'd be interested in a roast video about stylized characters like these? It's the first thing that came to mind as a way to take attention away from all the new AI stuff. At the end of the day, every big headline showing it off is a win for them. I'd rather we put our attention on what matters. It's the hype that keeps people businesses and brands so crazy about adopting AI. They are the most scared and running around trying to secure the bag. We don't need to contribute any more to that.

As I mentioned in my last video, It seems like people aren’t really interested in long-form content anymore. Ive noticed it myself, with many more views on shorts the past few months. What has been your experience?

I find that sometimes...perfect perspective isn't necessary. (It might be just me finding this out now though lol) While doing some character drawing practice, I noticed that my drawings were better when I accepted more of the imperfections. It's a delicate balance though, since if you accept EVERYTHING you do as perfect than is there really room to grow?

Sometimes things look ok, but they don't match up perfectly with the reference. So I try to struggle to get it right - and it comes out looking worse and more forced.

This is one of my favorite examples this week. I used a reference image but changed up a few things for fun. You can see just how inaccurate the chair/leg positioning is if you check out my Instagram post here:

Welcome to the severed floor, where the work is mysterious and important.

I drew a couple of my favorite characters from the hit show: Severance. Mr. Milkshake and Helly R.
