The heaviest swell to hit the KZN coast this year?
Last weekend delivered some of the strongest and most consistent waves we’ve seen on the KwaZulu-Natal coastline this year.
Heavy paddle-outs. Broken leashes. Snapped boards and hold downs.
This one we’ll remember this one for a while.

🌊 KZN really turned it on this weekend. From free surfs to the Ballito Pro. Heavy paddle-outs, awesome barrels, snapped boards and broken leashes made it a weekend to remember.

The countdown is over… the Ballito Pro kicks off tomorrow!
The first event out of the gates is the O’Neill SMTH Shapes Rookie Rippers, where South Africa’s best young surfers (U12–U18) will battle it out at Willard Beach from 4–6 July.
These young surfers are the future of South African surfing, and many of tomorrow’s stars will be competing over the next three days.

I’ll be at the beach throughout the event, and from next week I’ll be working with the WSL during the JQS, QS and Challenger Series, sharing a few behind-the-scenes moments along the way.

Sunday sunrise and 2.4 km in the Indian Ocean. 🌅🏊
Damien and I competed in today’s DUC Monthly League Swim and both finished 2nd in our age groups. 🥈🥈
The DUC League is a monthly open-water series in Durban, bringing together swimmers of all ages and abilities to race, earn points throughout the season, and enjoy a great morning in the ocean.
Cold start, great conditions, and another reminder that open-water swimming is as much about reading the ocean as it is about fitness.
