Beyond the Map breaks down how far places really are — not just on a map, but in real life.
Ever wondered how many miles separate two cities?
How long it would take to walk, drive, or fly there?
Or why some places feel closer than they actually are?
We turn distance into something you can see and understand.
Short, visual explainers covering:
• Real-world distances
• Travel time by foot, car, and plane
• Surprising comparisons you wouldn’t expect
• “Did you know?” travel and geography facts
Maps show where places are.
We show what it actually takes to get there.
New videos weekly.
Welcome to Beyond the Map.

Did you know this airport has one of the shortest runways in the world? ✈️😳
This is Gustaf III Airport in St. Barts.
The runway is so short that pilots have to clear a hill… then stop before they hit the ocean.
No long rollout.
No room to float.
Honestly, it looks peaceful from the beach — but landing here is all focus.
Would you feel relaxed touching down here… or gripping the armrest? 😅🌊
If you’re into places that don’t play by the usual rules, I break more of these down in my book.

Did you know only a small number of pilots are allowed to land here? ✈️⛰️
This is Paro International Airport in Bhutan.
It’s tucked deep in the mountains, with no straight-in approach.
Pilots literally fly between peaks to land.
Honestly… just watching this landing would make my palms sweat 😅
Would you feel calm landing here?
If you’re into places that don’t follow the usual rules — I break more of these down in my book.

Did you know there’s an airport built on the ocean? ✈️🌊
Japan’s Kansai International Airport sits on a man-made island in the middle of Osaka Bay.
Planes land there every day — surrounded by water on all sides — with the city connected by a long bridge across the sea.
It looks like something out of a sci-fi movie…
but it’s been operating for years.
Would you fly into an airport floating on the ocean? 🌍✨

Did you know Boeing didn’t start with airplanes? ✈️⚓
Before founding Boeing, William Boeing was a shipbuilder.
His curiosity about flight — sparked by early airshows — pushed him from building ships to building airplanes.
One curiosity. One pivot.
And aviation history changed forever.
It’s wild where curiosity can take you. 🌍✨

✈️ Did you know this actually existed?
The Concorde didn’t just fly — it broke reality.
New York to London in under 3.5 hours.
Faster than the rotation of the Earth.
Passengers literally arrived before they left on the clock.
No Wi-Fi. No seatback screens.
Just speed, sound, and a sonic boom that changed aviation forever.
Would you have flown on the Concorde if you had the chance?
