My name is Daniel and I started learning to play the piano on 29 December 2019. I started this channel to provide another example of practising the piano for an hour or less, most days.
The pieces I upload to this channel are intended as a personal record of what I believe I am capable of at a given time. As such, I may record up to 20 takes of a particular piece before I get one that I am happy with. Each piece should be considered my peak performance, not how I play generally, though this is what I strive for when I sit at the piano.
I am not alone in uploading regular piano progress updates, I would highly encourage beginner pianists to follow as many others on this journey as possible to provide a broad range of abilities and expectations.

The Prelude in E minor I posted was recorded using the line-out directly from my piano. But while recording I also had 4 other mics recording the same thing. Post your favourite in this poll before watching to the very end where the mics are listed. Maybe the result will surprise you.

Check out this video by my piano (and drum) learning buddy, @DavidConnors, who's done an awesome collaboration with his drum teacher.

Hi Everyone. A couple of biggish changes happening with my channel. First, I've changed the name. When I began uploading my pieces to YouTube I picked a keyword-y channel name in the hope that people may search it and watch my videos. It may or may not have worked. But fast forward 3 years I feel it's very impersonal and bland. Moving forward, my channel will be @DanielLearnsPiano. It's more personal and sounds less like a benchmark (not that my progress would be a very high benchmark). I've created accounts on TikTok and Instagram using the same name: @daniel.learns.piano.
Second, I've always had a bit of a problem with only uploading polished pieces. I feel it's misleading to only show the final product and simply gloss over the weeks of practice that have taken place. For a while, I tried to capture in-progress footage and edit it into my videos, but constantly getting out my camera became a burden. Not the mention the editing. 🤮
YouTube Shorts now appear in their own little section in the Subscription feed. So I don't think it's unreasonable to post a daily snippet of what I'm practicing. These videos are easy to produce and over time will provide insight into how my pieces develop over time. I'm sure I'll find it interesting looking back on these, even if no one else does. These videos will be posted to Instagram and TikTok as well.
Thanks for following my journey, it may be slow but at least it does keep creeping forward.

As some of you may know, I recently celebrated my 2nd piannoversary! I'm currently in the process of putting together a compilation video of the pieces I played during my 2nd year and I plan to do a voiceover talking about how I feel my progress is going. While this won't be a Q&A video as such, if you do have any questions about my progress post them in the comments below and I will try and incorporate the answers into the video.
Many thanks to my beautiful wife who actually baked me this cake for my birthday this year.

Hello, I hope everyone is having a great start to the year. I hope to have some new videos soon but I had a two week break from the piano so I’m not don’t have any new pieces for now.
What I have been doing is developing a reactive light setup for my piano. I’m hoping it will be ready by the time I’ve finished my next piece so I can add some visual interest to my video. It’s already got some cool presets I’ve designed.
One last thing, over the Christmas break @mattsoutham contacted me about getting some of the piano channels together online. As it happens, I’d had the same idea a while back and set up a Discord but never moved forward with it. It’s up and running now and there are a few of us there. Feel free to drop by and say hello.

Do piano progress videos leave you inspired or discouraged?
For me, they definitely started as an inspiration, but as I continue sometimes watching others doing really well while I feel like I'm struggling makes them more difficult to watch.
I discuss my thoughts on progress videos in my latest video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0Ud7...

For my end of half lesson next week, my teacher wants me to perform for her all three movements of the Clementi Sonatina Op.36 No.1. As I’ll have to play from home due to the Covid situation I have the option of recording this performance.
I’m sure it won’t be pretty due to the pressure of the situation, but who would like to see this?
