How do you strengthen your 10th house?
The 10th house is the house of Karma.
It represents our actions, duties, responsibilities, profession, reputation and the work through which we participate in the world.
But the 10th house is also called Svarga.
So how do we strengthen the 10th house and attain Svarga?
There are 12 houses in Jyotish. When we continue counting beyond the 12th house, the 10th house in the second cycle becomes 22.
And at the Jagannath Temple in Puri, the devotee crosses 22 steps, the Baisi Pahacha, before having the Darśana of Jagannath.
This is where the symbolism becomes fascinating.
The 22 can be understood through the different faculties and principles of human experience:
Jñānendriyas: Eye, Ear, Nose, Tongue, Skin
Pañca Prāṇa: Prāṇa, Apāna, Vyāna, Udāna, Samāna
Pañca Tanmātra: Rūpa, Rasa, Gandha, Śabda, Sparśa
Pañca Mahābhūta: Pṛthvī, Jala, Agni, Vāyu, Ākāśa
Buddhi and Ahaṅkāra
These are the layers through which we experience the world and perform our Karma.
And after crossing these 22 steps comes Jagannath Darśana.
Jagannath, in this Jyotish interpretation, represents Ketu.
Ketu represents detachment, transcendence and liberation from identification. Ketu also gets Digbala in the 10th house.
So the symbolism becomes:
22 → 10th House → Karma → Ketu → Jagannath → Darśana → Svarga
The journey to Jagannath is therefore not merely a physical journey.
It is a symbolic journey through the faculties that constitute our worldly experience before standing before Jagannath.
To strengthen the 10th house is not merely to increase professional success.
It is to purify your Karma.
And this is the deeper significance of Jagannath Darśana.
Purify the 22.
Resolve the Karma.
Attain Svarga.
