Robert Hébras (1925-2023), last survivor of the Oradour-sur-Glane massacre passed away this morning at 6:15 at the Hospital Center of Saint-Junien surrounded by his loved ones.
Passer of memory, craftsman of peace and reconciliation, he will have dedicated his life to the memory of the 643 victims of the tragedy of June 10, 1944.

A convinced and committed European, he worked to bring the French and German peoples closer together by forming close links with the youth of the two countries. He was one of the determining factors in the success of the day of September 4, 2013, when the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, accompanied by his French counterpart, came to bow officially at the scene of the drama in tribute to the martyrs.

Over recent years, Robert Hébras has gradually passed on the relay to his granddaughter, Agatha, so that she could in turn experience this task of memory.
