They are persecuting Ben Roberts-Smith at the dumbest time. They really should’ve let this sleeping dog lie.
Instead, they’re poking it right as the economy tanks and people stop pretending they care about elite moral lectures post-Bondi.
Hearts are hardened. Pauline backed him weeks ago, people only have support for him fresh in mind - and are being told by a media that despises him that he’s a bad guy, like that works (see One Nation polling).
Even if guilty, expect ‘irrational’ public reverence and headlines like “sociologists warn public indifference to alleged BRS war crimes marks bloody turn in Australian culture”.
By the end of the century it is projected that 40% of the world’s population will be African. Without Western aid or inventions, Africa would be a vastly underpopulated and underdeveloped continent.
The idea that changing the date will lead us to any more ‘unity’ is hilarious. They spent Australia Day saying ‘abolish Australia’ and the days before it destroying ANZAC monuments and burning the flag.
The ‘indigenous’ side of the debate is not principally concerned with the date but rather Australia’s existence. Whatever unity you think there is to be had if we just change this date exists only in imagination.
I don’t care if you can find like 1 Indigenous person in a comment section saying they support Australia Day and strong borders or whatever, the exception proves the rule; take a gander at any of their peak representation, and all you will find is rabid anti-Australianism. That’s what matters, not the single individual who has zero authority.
Remember the voice, see the state treaties, see the land grants - they are literally stealing the country from you and you just disarm your own side talking about ‘unity’.
Yeah calling for unity feels good, wanting everyone to chillax and it all be kumbaya is a comfortable position but it's the position that enables all sorts of evils to be continuously committed against us.
I’m being accused by anti-defamation groups of “violence without a weapon” and “psychological terrorism” for putting up street art in the same style and meaning as cherished LW activists.
Your family is stranded at sea, drifting away from land. It’s getting dark and cold. You send your 13-year-old son to swim 4 km to shore for help. He makes it, collapses on the beach, basically hallucinating from exhaustion. There are people around ‘thank goodness’ but when he asks them for help, they’re all foreigners and can’t understand him. So he has to force himself to run another 2km along the beach just to find a phone.
Yes, that really happened just days ago here in Australia..
