Meet Márinho Leão🦭

Born and raised in Machico, Madeira, Portugal.
Mário or Márinho as he likes to be called, is a tour guide in Funchal, having worked for Madeira Secrets & Stories for over 20 years.
He is also known among locals for his accordion-driven Rock-Pimba performances at Funchal's summer arraiais.
He lives in Funchal with his wife Sofia and their teenage daughter and son, Catarina and Paulo.

Note: Márinho's single "Mother Foca"/"Mother Seal" is up to be released tomorrow and I wanted to introduce the man or should I say, the fictional persona.
Since "Mother Foca" was made specifically for EuroReVision with the focus on it being a song in the Pimba genre, Márinho (or rather his first iterations) were born and developed alongside the song. He is from Madeira because the Mediterranean monk seal is native to the archipelago and also because the song necessitated a seaside location for the theme of escaping your life and coming back to that summer vacation spot you always came back to.
The other details, like the day job, exist because, with maybe one exception, none of my personas are glamorous singers with fans all over the world and platinum singles. I find it more interesting if they are more like the artists in the less glamorous national finals across Europe (the ones that aren't Melfest, UMK or Sanremo), where a big chunk of them are hopefuls that compete to try to find their place in the music industry, pretty much normal people that love to sing or to play music and that still need a day job to keep doing what they love to do. Márinho would have been one of them, but alas, no EuroReVision-Festival-da-Canção equivalent for him (ReFestival da Canção?), so he has to keep being who he has been: a normal guy that loves to play the accordion and to have fun with the crowd during the warm nights of the Madeiran summer.

The Fancy Crisps

Luciano Parisi
A Naples-born singer-songwriter, living in Milan with his wife, Maria Bianchi. He released his first pop-rock solo album, Viandante, in 2024 and more recently he released the song "Per Raffaella", dedicated to his newborn daughter.

Idir Itri
A supermarket cashier from Aulnay-sous-Bois, France. For him music is an escape and a way to express what he has lived and what he feels

Medeia
Born in Aveiro and living in Lisbon, Portugal, she is a fado singer who performs both traditional and modern fado.

YARA
Born and living in Lisbon, Portugal, she started singing gospel at church and, although she now works as a dancer and dance instructor, she still loves to sing, expanding into jazz and kuduro.

Note: I've mentioned that I've been having fun character building the aliases I used for EuroReVision SUMMERHIT and HEATWAVE. I had made 3 aliases initially for EuroReVision 2026 too and I've decided, mostly for completion sake, to also character build the personas I made for the first contest and create 3 more aliases for the songs I submitted as altFortuna at the time.
To be honest these characters are likely just going to be one-off personas, although I do have a song in the unfinished pile for the Dualliste persona and another one in Italian that I'm thinking on attributing to Maria Bianchi.
I'm unsure when I'm going to finish them, I've been feeling stuck regarding AI music production. Something strange happened with me, my ear has become attuned to plosives and everything I've generated has plosives on them. I tried cleaning some songs with Cakewalk Sonar by following the available tutorials, maybe I just don't know what I'm doing, but I can't seem to fix any of the plosives with the equalizers. I've even managed to thin the entire vocals trying to remove them and the plosives are still there...
A song doesn't need to be perfect, it needs to exist... I had this mantra when working on "Dama de l Monte" and I've been coming back to it these days, thinking if I should just pull the trigger and release the Dualliste song, plosives included, as I really love how it came out.

Meet Cherry Marlow:

Born in the 70s, Cherry Marlow always dreamed of being a star of the telly, but being born in Manchester to working class parents made that dream feel far away. She didn't give up though. Although she wasn't able to get a proper education, she started her career doing amateur panto in her teens . It didn't pay, but she learned through experience.
In her late teens she packed her bags and headed south, chasing whatever stage would have her. Theatrical revues, chorus lines, the occasional go-go dancing gig.
As she got older Cherry did a bit of everything — modelling, dancing, backing vocals for other singers, singing live in bars. There was never a stage she turned down, always chasing the stardom and working her ass off in the meantime. In her late 40s she started performing on cruise ships, where she fell in love with the Mediterranean sea. She eventually decided to move to Spain, Marbella, performing live across the Costa del Sol.
At 52 she adds another job to her long list — solo singer.
People ask who is Cherry Marlow? She is still that working class lass from Manchester, someone who never stopped working, someone who loves to entertain and to make life a little brighter to everyone.

Born in the Algarve and based in Lisbon, Pedro Mourinho is a college student known on TikTok as Barquinha for his acoustic guitar covers. His debut single “Rua da Ponte” marks his first step as a singer-songwriter, a song about the quiet courage it takes to love openly.

Note: I've had a lot of fun character building artists based on the songs I submitted to EuroRevision Summerhit, so I kept doing it for Heatwave. I also had already started working on his bio and making images with gpt image 2, so things where already in motion before the contest started.
I know it's a silly side project, but on the other hand working on Ariandel's bio, the persona I used for "Three Steps" as inspired me to make the song called "Glass Hall", same for Nbrineiro & Heráis(Dama de l Monte) resulting in two unfinished songs in Mirandese and I've recently been trying to workshop lyrics in French for the band Dualliste, the alias I used to submit the song "La Mer Ne Répond Pas".
Barquinha for now feels like it's going to be a one-song kind of persona, but maybe one day I feel inspired to return to him.

"Dama de l Monte", performed by Nbrineiro & Heráis is the only song I've got on the finals, but I made a couple of backstage photos also including my two other artists, Ariandel and Calculators Assemble.
At the end of the day these images are fake and also an idealized idea of what we would like Eurovision to be, a contest of music where people from different backgrounds can meet one another, that will support one another and build friendships because they are a bunch of weirdos that love music.
Maybe there was a time where that was what Eurovision was, but that isn't what it is today, not what it has become. Sadly also the necessity of turning every single interaction into a post or a video to promote oneself, to garner more votes for one's country, has made the demonstrations of friendship that still happen feel hollow and fake. At least to me...
I probably should end in a positive note... But what's more positive than the 30 songs competing in the final of EuroReVision SUMMERHIT 2026? So check them out and vote on your favorites😉

Thanks for everyone that voted for me, in many occasions working on Dama felt like a fool's errand, working on a language I don't speak, with very little resources online with an AI that wasn't able to properly pronounce it, but it was worth it. Even if it had failed at EuroReVision I really enjoyed the journey, when I first read what Claude had hallucinated, that mix of words that weren't a real language, a blurred shape in the fog that my brain turned into meaning. When I read what I thought was actually written I felt emotional.
Deep down the layers of the legend that inspired it, of Catholicism and Paganism, is a simple story of two people that fall in love for one another, two people that know that what they feel is part of their nature, that is good, that it is right, that it is not a sin. Although it depicts an heterosexual couple, it is a song about queer love, inspired too by those that, in the absence of a church or state that could officiate their union, chose to freely commit to one another, their vows the only blessing that society would allow.
I doubt that anyone has read that deep into the lyrics as I, but that queer subtext was intended when talking to Claude about composing the lyrics and it has in me when I first read that shape. That subtext and it being a song in Mirandese was why it was so hard to finish it, I wanted to honor both the language and it's story. I still don't feel like I did the best job I could, but I really thank for those that voted for it.
I did learned a lot while working on this song, both about generating AI music, about generating better vocals and I learned a bit about how to write and speak in Mirandese and developed a love for the language. I intend to continue working for the Nbrineiro & Heráis project (playlist "Basta Sierra"). I'll try doing my best regarding the written lyrics and pronunciation and hopefully someone else will not only like what I do, but will also find a love for the Mirandese language too🌙

Meet Calculators Assemble:

Calculators Assemble is a music producer and DJ from Ireland. Their identity (including their name, age, and gender) remains unknown.
They're transparent about their use of generative AI in music production, describing it as a dialogue between human intuition and machine intelligence, “a collaboration between the operator and the system, neither fully in control, but both essential to the output.”

Note: Calculators Assemble was the alias I used to submit "Midnight Archive" as my entry for Ireland. For a while I didn't know what to do with them, where they just an accountant from Dublin? A math teacher with a five year old? A random 17 year old? Was it a serious artist or just someone doing it as a hobby? A lot of questions, no answers.
"Midnight Archive" is a song about a post-human world, performed by an AI, so having a human as the front of it always felt a bit wrong and I always saw the red circle as personification of the AI in the song, so the best of both worlds was to make Calculators a masked artist like Daft Punk or Deadmau5. Is it a bit of a cop-out? Yes it is, but they look cool as hell😸
