“As a man thinketh in his heart so he is.” Our realities are the result of our thoughts. So what we think about and how we think about things are the fundamental building blocks of our lives. Here, I like to challenge, explore, and teach what I can about thought. My hope is that what you find useful, you will take with you and that what you find foolish, you will tell me! Together, we will come to a better place.

I love to read and write. This channel is dedicated to both of those passions put into video form. To read instead of watch (my preference as well), see my Substack linked below. There, you will also find my reading list if you'd like to read any of the books that I find most interesting. Thank you for viewing my channel!

While I like making videos, I actually prefer to write! Enjoy and have a great week!

"You wake each morning and search for that familiar feeling called “you”. You remember the events of the day before and the significant memories of those long ago to remind yourself of who you are, confusing who you are with what you have been through, but the two are not the same. What if that feeling of “you” is nothing but a ghost?"

In this episode of The History of Philosophy, we wrap up our journey with the Presocratics by exploring the revolutionary ideas of Anaxagoras, Democritus, and the Sophists. From Anaxagoras’ theory of cosmic seeds and the role of "nous," to Democritus’ groundbreaking theory of atomism, these thinkers attempted to answer Parmenides’ profound challenge on the nature of reality. We also delve into the Sophists' role in 5th-century Greece, exploring the enduring debate about morality—whether it is a human construct or embedded in the very fabric of reality.

In this episode of The History of Philosophy, we delve into the radical ideas of three influential Presocratic thinkers—Parmenides, Zeno of Elea, and Empedocles—who each challenged the very nature of reality. Parmenides argued that reality is eternal and unchanging, denying the existence of time and motion. His student Zeno defended these ideas through paradoxes that questioned our perception of movement and plurality. Empedocles, on the other hand, introduced a universe governed by the opposing forces of Love and Strife, with all matter consisting of four eternal elements. Together, these philosophers pushed the boundaries of thought and reshaped metaphysical debates for centuries to come.

In this episode of The History of Philosophy, dive into the mysterious life of Pythagoras, the radical critiques of Xenophanes, and the enigmatic teachings of Heraclitus. Discover how Pythagoras blended mathematics with mysticism, how Xenophanes challenged the traditional gods, and how Heraclitus unraveled the paradox of constant change. By the end, you'll gain a deeper understanding of how these philosophers shaped the evolution of thought, bridging the gap between metaphysics, science, and the nature of reality.

I hope you enjoy this one! I sure did.

It should be well established already that humans are so much more than objects. We think is all too simple and obvious, but is it? Do we act as though this were true? 👇
