The much-loved children’s series Jackanory began on BBC One 60 years ago. Many famous faces took part in the series over the years, reading familiar books and creating childhood memories.

1. 1986: Rik Mayall reading from George's Marvellous Medicine by Roald Dahl.
2. 1968: Miriam Margolyes reading from Albert the Dragon and the Centaur by Rosemary Weir.
3. 1983: Indira Joshi reading from Indian Folk Tales by Ilay Cooper.
4. 1996: Alan Bennett reading from Winnie the Pooh by A.A. Milne.
5. 1984: Norman Beaton reading from A Gift To The Family by Geoffrey Kilner.
6. 1974: Judi Dench reading from What the Neighbours Did by Philippa Pearce.
