Meditations. Hypnosis. Affirmations. Unlearn the stories holding you back.

My goal with this channel is to provide free resources for your growth and healing so that you can tap into all the joy and love that the world desires for you.

🌹 Hi, I'm Iris Higgins (she/her), certified hypnotherapist. I have been providing coaching and hypnotherapy for the last 10+ years. I graduated from New York University with a master’s degree in psychology and earned a certification in hypnotherapy from Bastyr University outside of Seattle. My original intention when getting my master’s degree was to pursue a PhD in social psychology. As a multiracial [Black, Native American (Catawba), and white] woman who looks white, I wanted to study race and appearances, but life led me down a different path that’s brought me to a fulfilling coaching and hypnotherapy practice.

Friends,

I am creating a Guided Brain Retraining Round, using the principles of hypnosis and brain retraining to help you rewire your brain for CALM. This session is intended for anyone who likes the idea of brain retraining or self-hypnosis but feels they have a hard time doing it on their own and would like to be guided through it. Can you help me pick the best title to make sure this video gets seen by the people who need it?

Hey Friends, I’m aware that my meditations have had a lot of ads in them lately and I’m annoyed by it too. I don’t want any ads in my videos since you’re going through a meditative process.

As a small channel that isn’t monetized, I can’t figure out how to control my ads. Does anyone know if there’s a way I can turn them off? I’ve looked it up but can’t find a good answer.

As we're approaching the new year, it's my intention in 2023 to really listen to my audience (you!) and create content that serves you. So leave a comment letting me know how you hope my content can support you (i.e. where are you struggling that hypnosis/meditation/mindset work might help you).

And now today I want to share a client success story about PTSD and nightmares.

Sarah (not her real name) was referred to me by her therapist. She had CPTSD (Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) and debilitating nightmares that left her unable to function the next day.

When we began working together, the nightmares happened every single night. She had tried medication and sleep studies but hadn't seen any relief.

Our work together focused on the idea that the nightmares were a protective part of her brain trying to keep her safe and that we needed to bring her nervous system back into a space of calm and safety while reminding her of how strong and resilient she actually is.

We spent a lot of time in sessions relaxing in sacred spaces (so that her nervous system could calm down), talking with different parts of her psyche (to help them learn to work together better) and imagining happy future moments (to create new pathways for health and happiness in her brain).

In the first month of working together, Sarah told me that her nightmares had increased but also that the content was shifting, so she knew something was happening even if she didn't understand it yet.

Symptoms increasing can actually be a good sign because it means that the brain is fighting back against change (it's called an extinction burst) so I knew we were on the right path and we continued with our bi-weekly sessions.

In our second month of working together, Sarah experienced her first night without a nightmare.

Then she experienced two nights (in one week) without a nightmare.

After that, progress was slow but we just continued on, knowing that the brain takes time to change.

Research shows us that it generally takes the brain six months to make a lasting change (that's why so many health programs are six months long). From zero to six months, the brain is learning a new way of being but will forget it without continued practice.

From six to ten months, the brain has finally created new pathways for whatever it's been learning, and those next four months are spent deepening the grooves, so to speak, in the new pathway.

So I knew that it would take Sarah a good six months at least to see real change, and knowing the science behind neuroplasticity made it easier for her to be patient.

Around seven months in, Sarah began to see a real shift. Her nightmares were happening less, and when they did happen, they didn't leave her unable to function the next day. She had gone from being unable to function most days to only about once a week.

In her eighth month, Sarah had a week with only one nightmare (down from seven!).

We're now ten months into her hypnotherapy sessions and she is thriving at a new job that she loves. She hasn't missed a day of work (which used to happen often) and we've cut down our sessions to every three weeks (instead of every two weeks).

She has begun creating healthier ways of dealing with her fears so that her brain doesn't have to send her nightmares anymore, and we've begun working more on limiting beliefs around being happy and true to herself.

Just as brain science suggests, it took ten months for things to really change for Sarah, but now we can shift our work from nightmares and trying to function to really learning how to feel comfortable thriving.

Now, every client I work with is different, and not everyone will need ten months, but understanding the science behind what's happening in the brain makes it so much easier for clients to step back and see the big picture of their progress.

Sometimes shifts happen quickly. Sometimes they happen slowly. But real change takes time and practice and patience.

So perhaps I'll leave you with this. As you think about the new year and any changes you want to make in your life, be patient with yourself and know that real change - the kind that creates new pathways in your brain and new energy in your body - comes with practice and time.

I won't have any new content until 2023 as I focus on celebrating the holidays with family, so Happy New Year!

❤️ Iris

As we move into this holiday season, you may find yourself feeling overwhelmed or just dealing with difficult feelings. If you only have 10 minutes, this is a great meditation to help you get back to your own center.

Take a break anytime and settle back into your body, reminding yourself of how you want to feel in the present moment and bringing that desires feeling state into your body for the rest of the day.

How do you want to feel in your life?

I’m creating a hypnosis audio for stepping into your dream life and I want to know what words come to mind when you think of how you want to feel on a daily basis.

Comment below with whatever words come to mind so I can make them a part of this video and make it work even better for you.
