His heart is established; he will not be afraid. Psalm 112:8 —————- Yes, fear is an awful emotion to endure. But remember—we don’t have to endure it. The Bible says, Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who delights greatly in His commandments…He will not be afraid of evil tidings; his heart is steadfast, trusting in the Lord ( Psalm 112:1,7). The Bible tells us to fear God. Don’t fear life. The Lord has determined your path. Come before Him today and tell Him you are choosing to fear Him with godly reverence, to follow His plan, and to trust Him to care for you, come what may. ( If the Lord be with us, we have no cause to fear. His eye is upon us, His arm over us, and His ear open to our prayer—His grace sufficient, His promise unchangeable).
I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. Galatians 2:20 ————- Being crucified with Christ has both a legal and relational component. Legally, God looks at us if we had died with Christ, we are no longer condemned for our sins because that price has been paid. Relationally, we share in Christ’s sufferings and have died to our old way of living; He now indwells us through the Holy Spirit, empowering us to live a life of obedience. ( Thank you Jesus that we can have life, Hallelujah to the Lamb of God).
Psalm 11:4-6. The Lord is in His Holy temple, the Lord is on His heavenly throne. He observes everyone on earth; His eyes examine them.5 The Lord examines the righteous, but the wicked, those who love violence, he hates with a passion. 6 On the wicked He will rain fiery coals and burning sulfur; a scorching wind will be their lot. ————— God sees what happens in the world, and He will act—He examines the righteous; but the wicked will be dealt with more severely, through the heaping of fiery coals and burning sulfur upon them. The statement that God hates such people with a passion refers to God’s intense rejection of them rather than an emotion.
Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer. Psalm 19:14 ———— Jesus refined the connection by saying that from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders ( Mark 7:21). That’s why the writer of Psalm 119 said that in order not to sin externally, he hid God’s Word in his heart ( Psalm 119:11). It’s also why the apostle Paul said the key to living the will of God is renewing the mind ( Romans 12:2. The more we fill our mind and heart with God’s truth, the less room there will be for the ways of this world to ultimately manifest themselves in our external life. Are you filling your heart and mind with God’s Word on a daily basis? It is the only way your life can be transformed.
Hell is the raw soul joined to an indestructible body, exposed to its own sin for eternity. Hell is the place of unquenchable, raging guilt, without painkillers or sedation. Literal fire might be welcomed if only it would cleanse the tormented conscience. Be assured of this: Neither the devil nor his angels will torment people in hell. Satan and his demons will be among the tormented; they will not be tormentors ( Revelation 20:10). Charles Spurgeon wrote, If there be one thing in hell worse than another, it will be seeing the saints in heaven…Husband, there is your wife in heaven and you are among the damned. And do you see your father? Your child is before the throne, and you accursed of God and man are in hell!
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, tomorrow. Hebrews 13:8 —————- Even though the city and temple were destroyed, God’s love for Israel was unchanging; His love and compassion were the same, morning after morning. This same truth is expressed by the writer to the Hebrews; Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Just as God’s covenant with Israel endures, His commitment to you is unchanging and steadfast. Whatever you are facing today, do not doubt God’s faithfulness. He is the same yesterday, today,and forever.
Cast your burdens on the Lord , and He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved. Psalm 55:22 ———— His grace holds us tight and holds us up. And it’s not just you He sustains. Hebrews 1:3 says, The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His being, sustaining all things by His powerful word. God would not have given us life or created our bodies without seeing to the provision of those things necessary to sustain us. If we believe in a Creator-God, we must also believe in a Sustainer-God. When it comes to life’s necessities, the Lord told us in Matthew 6:25 not to worry about these things. If we seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness, He will provide them ( Matthew 6:33). Ask God to remind you that your Creator is your Sustainer. Through Him you have all you need.
John 3:36 Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God's wrath remains on them. -------- God does not send people to hell; rather, people send themselves, choosing the condemnation they are already under. God's wrath remains on fallen humanity, but thankfully, God has provided a way out through faith in Christ ( John 3:16-17---- For God so loved the world that He gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him. Thank you Jesus.
But I will hope continually, and will praise You yet more and more. Psalm 71:14 ————— Psalm 71, a prayer for God’s help as advancing age makes life more trying, is a good example of this. At the very center of the psalm in Hebrew are these summary words: But I will hope continually, and will praise You yet more and more. In spite of the trials the psalmist faced, his hope was in the Lord. The more his troubles multiplied, the more he multiplied his praise. Hope in God was his anchor during troubling times ( Hebrews 6:19). It’s impossible to avoid troubles in life. But it is possible to praise God yet more and more for the hope we have in Him.
Every year many folks use the first of the year as a fresh start; a refreshing for a new year. There are two times in the Bible the word refreshing is used:
Isaiah 28:12 To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.
Acts 3:19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;
