Castle Stuart and Auld Petty Church & Graveyard.

We took a visit to this amazing place yesterday.

The land the castle was built on was granted to James Stewart, 1st Earl of Moray by his half-sister, Mary Queen of Scots, following her return to Scotland in 1561. The castle was finally completed by his grandson, James Stuart, 3rd Earl of Moray, in 1625. It is currently being used as a hotel.

Auld Petty church & graveyard are no longer in use. The current church is from 1839 but it is built upon a former church dating from 1769 with possibly an earlier church being on the site going way back.
At the eastern end of the Church is an earlier mauleum known as the MacKintosh vault, dating to 1686.

While visiting the oldest date we could make out on a grave was 1663 (see pic). There are some amazing old graves here. Over the next few days we will share more about this fascinating site. If your in the area it is well worth a visit!

Holm Woollen Mill, Inverness

This is the old woollen mill in Inverness today that featured in our recent "Little Matthew" video. This is the mill that Matthew & his father worked in. It is now as retail outlet however it still retains a lot of the original buildings and fittings inside & out from the old Woollen Mill and is well worth a visit if you are in Inverness. It also has a cafe if you fancy a cuppa while your visiting.

A wee channel update: Apologies for the lack of content on the channel atm, we have had a couple of things happen that has stopped us working on new content just now.
We were working on a video for a story and had put a lot of research into it but it has had to be scrapped for now due to copyright concerns.
Andy (one half of Highlands Uncovered) one year old wee lassie came down with a serious bacterial infection and is currently in hospital getting treatment. Until the wee one is on the mend the channel will be on hold for now. Thank you all for your support during this time and we hope to be back with new content very soon πŸ€—β€οΈπŸ΄σ §σ ’σ ³σ £σ ΄σ Ώ

Interesting Story from the west coast πŸ˜πŸ‘πŸ€—β€οΈπŸ΄σ §σ ’σ ³σ £σ ΄σ Ώ

In July 2015, construction work was underway on a property in Applecross when workers made an unexpected discovery. News quickly spread of the human skull found under the kitchen floor of the Old Estate Office, a listed building dating back to approximately 1820. Cathy Dagg, an archaeologist from Wester Ross who had previously worked on archaeological jobs for the Applecross Estate, was the first person called to examine the skull.

Dagg was joined by a colleague and the Applecross Archeological Society to carry out an excavation of the site. Due to the possibility of a modern murder having been committed, Dagg believed they could solve the case through detective work. However, as they cleaned up the site, they found many skeletal remains, including three lower jaw bones, indicating a multiple burial.

Further analysis of the bones was conducted by the Applecross Estate, who paid for carbon dating. The results revealed that the bones dated back to the Iron Age, a significant discovery as there were very few Iron Age burials on the West Coast. The Applecross burial site was so well preserved due to its location on a raised beach with no soil, preventing the acidic soil from deteriorating the bones. Additionally, the skeletons had been protected under the property for hundreds of years, during its time as a merchant's house, estate office, and family home.

The analysis of the bones revealed that they belonged to a total of six different people, although they were not complete skeletons. Dagg has been invited to share the story of the discovery at an event organized by the Applecross Heritage Centre. The event, titled "Skeletons Under the Floorboards: A Tale of Skulduggery in Applecross," will be held at the community hall at 7:30 pm on Tuesday.

We will always try to keep this channel neutral when it comes to politics but the Scottish First Minister Nichola Sturgeon has resigned and we wondered how our viewers were feeling about it?

We have had some comments since starting the channel about the narration voice with some people saying the Scottish Accent is a little difficult to follow. We appreciate all feedback good or bad and would love it if you could take a second to tell us your preference on the matter so we can try and make our content as watchable as possible! Thank You!!!
