The Core Issue:
The Tamil Nadu Chicken Traders Federation (led by President B. Durairaj) and Puducherry traders announced an indefinite suspension of broiler chicken sales starting July 31.

The Rule Violation: Government guidelines (issued in 2024) mandate stopping feed 8 to 12 hours prior to dispatching birds for slaughter/market.

Weight Manipulation: Producers feed birds right until loading onto trucks. This adds ~100g to 200g of extra weight per bird (undigested feed and water). Producers spend ₹3–₹4 on extra feed, but charge traders and consumers ₹10–₹12 extra per bird.

Hygiene & Food Safety Threat: During butchering, the undigested feed trapped in the digestive tract spills over and contaminates the meat with waste matter. Heavy excretion during transport also degrades overall processing hygiene.
