Welcome to my channel.

I’m a retired six sigma IT consultant, but don’t let that put you off, my family never understood what I did for a living so I don’t expect you too either and I promise to not mention it again!

Like many people at working age my interests took a back seat and now I’m retired I’m free to explore them and learn the skills needed to be successful at them. This channel is about my journey and I’d love you to share it with me, either as a sage I can listen to and learn from through the comments or someone not so far along the road that I can pass what I’ve learnt onto.

I’m not sure how it will turn out but you are welcome to find out with me.

Image 1:
I tried collimating my Celestron Edge 11HD for the first time a few weeks back AND MESSED IT UP, but thankfully, I was able to correct it before the clouds rolled in. So...
So I thought id give it another go with the Tri-Bahtinov mast, but the pattern I used gives very regular spikes making it very confusing to use! Anyway without changing anything this time I got this image which I think means the collimation is ok - I'm happy to be told otherwise, if you think it could be better :-)
Image 2:
Perhaps more interesting is the same object through a narrow band filter - cool or what!
Image 3:
In this stretched version of image 2 you can see the mask reflected by the filter and the 1st order diffraction of that reflection, this is not centred, which I think means the filter is slightly off collimation -??? Having a Physics degree here doesn't help, it just makes my brain explode! 🙂

I naively assumed that Tromso in Norway, being a mecca for viewing the Northern Lights they would have had strict controls on Light Pollution, but it is worse than central London! - I'd say Bortal 9 - even from a Ferry a few miles out the Light Pollution from Tromso dominates the sky. Such a shame they are destroying their tourist industry, I will definitely go somewhere else next time! LOL
