Thursday April 3, 2025 Weekday of Lent (4) Office: Psalter Week 4 Mass prop., Preface of Lent Vestment: Violet Today’s Rosary: Luminous Mystery
TODAY'S REFLECTION The real problem of the Pharisees was that they reduced their worship of God to mere human traditions and regulations; everything had now become eye-service – doing things just for people to see rather than what God really wants. Worship based on human approval is another definition of hypocrisy. Do I simply do things because of what others say or think about me? Do I really put God first and try to please him even if it means losing favour with the people around me? Am I ashamed of professing my faith or of standing for the truth just because of human beings? For seeking human approval, the Jews could not believe that Jesus is God. Thank God Moses intervened for the people by begging God to change his mind. Let us seek first and always to please God rather than people. You may not be popular, don’t worry; people may not like you, no problem; even your neighbours or your family members may hate you, no shaking.
Ignore what people are thinking or saying about you, so long as you are doing what God wants, you are on the right track. Hence St. Peter says (1 Peter 2:20-21), “But if when you do right and suffer for it you take it patiently, you have God's approval. For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example that you should follow in his steps.”
PERSONAL DEVOTIONAL: LENT CHALLENGE DAY 26 When you see someone that is weak in areas that you are strong, you do not need to make a show of it and reveal the weakness of that brother or sister. True love demands that you help the individual feel confident in himself or herself in such a way that he or she will be willing and ready to strive to become better. Be the help that will make that individual to come out of that weakness and become strong like you.
Today, instead of gossiping about that brother or sister who is down as a result of weakness, try and see how you can help that person by words and action to become great again. Your action speaks louder than voice.
Wednesday April 2, 2025 Weekday of Lent (4) St Francis of Paola, Hermit (Opt. Commem.) Office: Psalter Week 4 Mass prop., Preface of Lent Vestment: Violet Today’s Rosary: Glorious Mystery
TODAY'S REFLECTION In seeking to kill Jesus, the Jews felt they were doing something right. In their eyes, Jesus was a law breaker, a man who had no respect for God’s day of rest, an ordinary man who insulted God by daring to say God is his Father and implying that he himself is God. Try to put yourself in the shoes of the Jews at the time of Jesus. Imagine a friend of yours within your age range who grew up with you in the same neighborhood all of sudden shows up in the Cathedral one morning and starts claiming to be God. What would be your reaction?
In all honesty, you would do everything you can to convince yourself that he is just a man; that you must be out of your senses to assume that he is God.
And as if that is not enough, this person begins to preach that it is wrong for people to go to Church on Sunday and many start listening to him. Being a priest, I would consider this a personal attack on my source of sustenance. Without Sundays, I would simply be irrelevant. For attempting to even toil with my “day”, I would be just as mad as a trader whose shop in a busy market is about to brought down. I would fight back!
So you see! If Jesus should come back again, he would surely be killed a second time; so long as there are normal human beings like me in this world who like to hold on strongly to opinions about who God is and how he is to be worshipped. The Jews were convinced that the death of Jesus was justice served; they were sure they were doing honour to God. They never asked themselves: “What if I am wrong?” But in the end, history proved them wrong.
Now, where does all these lead to? My dear friends, if history proved these zealous Jews wrong, how sure am I that the views I hold right now are true? What makes me convinced that even those opinions I am passionate about are correct? Before I “kill” again, I must learn from history; before I shout “crucify him” against someone who does not hold my opinion, I think it would be wise to first ask myself: “what if I am wrong?”
Don’t be too quick to destroy or bring people down simply because you don’t agree with them. Be humble. Stop arguing. You may not be right. You cannot be right always. Listen to others. There may be something to learn even from your greatest critiques.
PERSONAL DEVOTIONAL: LENT CHALLENGE DAY 25 When we toil without God, we can put in much energy and get very little gain to show for our effort. However, when we work hard and also let God be involved in what we do, He gives our effort a divine touch that produces a miraculous outflow of fruitfulness in abundance. It is for our advantage that we let God be involved in the things we do, because without Him we can definitely make no way in this life.
Today, make sure that you do not take the journey alone. Allow the Lord to go with you and by His help you will definitely witness success; be it in work, business, study, career, relationships, etc.
Tuesday April 1, 2025 Weekday of Lent (4) Office: Psalter Week 4 Mass prop., Preface of Lent Vestment: Violet Today’s Rosary: Sorrowful Mystery
TODAY’S REFLECTION Next to air water is the element that living organisms most need to survive and thrive. Human beings, animals and plants can only go for so long without water before they die. Communities, nations have been known to go to war in order to secure access to water. Today’s readings speak of the healing power of water. Today, as a result of human error, numerous communities across the globe are experiencing water shortage. Humans, animals and plants in those places are threatened with extinction. We may not be able to do much to solve the water problems of the world. But we can at least do all in our power to meet the water needs of those around us – “I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink.”
PERSONAL DEVOTIONAL: LENT CHALLENGE DAY 24 Grace is gained whenever we perform a good act in the name of God and it is also lost when our actions become bitter and wicked. Everyone will not like you and your attitude and sometimes people could treat you badly, however, how you react and respond to them could either make you gain grace or lose it. Therefore, do not throw away opportunities to gain grace when next you experience insult and discomfort, try and tap into it and gain the grace you will need and use for greater good.
Today, try not to pay back evil with evil, but always see opportunity to gain grace from everything that happens to you whether good or bad. Let go of that desire to seek revenge after that insult, instead, did dip into it and gain grace from Jesus.
Monday March 31, 2025 Weekday of Lent (4) Office: Psalter Week 4 Mass prop., Preface of Lent Vestment: Violet Today’s Rosary: Joyful Mystery
TODAY’S REFLECTION The Israelites had been hurting under multiple afflictions. The prophet Isaiah foretold their healing and the restoration of good times from the Lord. Similarly, the son of the Capernaum official was ill and close to death. Jesus decreed his healing even without seeing him. But the Father had enough faith to take Jesus at his word. His faith was duly rewarded. Not infrequently, God’s children experience trials of different kinds, some self-inflicted, the result of their own folly, like the case of the Israelites. But if they have faith like that of the official to take their case to the Lord, he has both the power and the will to bring them solace.
PERSONAL DEVOTIONAL: LENT CHALLENGE DAY 23 When we stay close to Jesus we will receive revelations, knowledge and privilege that will make us know more about Him and we will be able to speak authoritatively in His name as His representative. The closer we are to Jesus the more we know Him and the more we will be able to speak about Him. Do not let anything stop you from striving to know Jesus more and when you know Him, you must be willing and ready to let others know about Him too.
Today, tell yourself the truth whether you are free or tied up somewhere. If the latter is the case, simply call upon Jesus with Faith and act upon His word and your freedom will come.
Sunday March 30, 2025 LAETARE SUNDAY Office: Psalter Week 4 Mass prop., Creed. Preface of Lent Vestment: Violet/Rose Today’s Rosary: Glorious Mystery
TODAY'S REFLECTION The second reading speaks of the reconciliation that God has wrought for us. In the life, death and resurrection of Jesus, we see how God has gone to take away our faults and give us a new beginning. Sin estranges us from God and makes us live apart from God, who is the source and goal of our life. In Christ, God opens to us the door of reconciliation. Like the father in the Gospel parable, God's heart of mercy is always open to take us back. The appeal is: "Be reconciled to God." But there can be no reconciliation with God without reconciliation with our fellow human beings beginning from the family, to our places of work or studies, to the market and to everywhere we encounter people. Why harden your heart to a brother or a sister or a neighbour or even a stranger who has offended you? As we seek forgiveness from God in the Sacrament of Reconciliation, let us remember to extend the same forgiveness to those who have offended us.
PERSONAL DEVOTIONAL FOR LENT When a dog is tied to a pole, it cannot be free anymore to walk around or run and in most cases it will stop it from expressing itself. When we let ourselves be tied up by things, people and places that infringes on our ability to grow up spiritually, then we are not free and we truly need someone to untie us or help us to untie ourselves. There is no other person who can help us in this regard than Jesus Christ Himself who came to set us free.
Today, tell yourself the truth whether you are free or tied up somewhere. If the latter is the case, simply call upon Jesus with Faith and act upon His word and your freedom will come.

TODAY’S REFLECTION The Pharisees in today’s Gospel did a lot of good things. But he was not sure whether God knew it. So he had to inform God! He lacked one very important virtue, humility. And God knew that, though the man himself didn’t. The tax collector was the exact opposite. He had done a lot of bad things. He knew it, and God knew it too. But he had the humility to acknowledge his shortcomings, and beg for forgiveness. God answered his prayer. No one is ever so good and righteous that he does not need God’s mercy. We should always approach him with a humble and contrite heart, like the tax collector.
PERSONAL DEVOTIONAL: LENT CHALLENGE DAY 22 Idleness is one of the easiest way to 'rot' as a human being. God is not idle and he does not expect us to be either. When you let what your life becomes be determined by others you may end up being idle for the rest of your life, but when you take control of your life in a positive sense, you will see the need to work hard and not be idle. There is a lot you can do to keep yourself busy and when you are busy doing something worthwhile with your time, you will not have the chance to think of frivolities.
Today, try and engage yourself in something good and positive and never patronize idleness. By working hard today, you will leave a lasting legacy to our world when you depart.

TODAY’S REFLECTION The Hebrew Scriptures, our own Old Testament, contain a multitude of commandments. The scribe in today’s Gospel wanted to know which of them was the first Jesus gave the answer. The first was to love God above all things, with every atom of your being. But he would not let the scribe get away without also learning the second commandment, which was to love your neighbour as yourself. These two commandments always go together. Know it today that you are the only copy of yourself in the whole world, that is to say, you are uniquely made by God and God did not make any mistake in creating you. Therefore, see yourself as the best of God and then work hard everyday to represent the one who has made you to be the best.
Today, cheer yourself up and say to yourself, "I am the best of my kind" strive to be the best always without trying to undermine others. Stay unique as you are created by God and continue to make our world more beautiful with your personality.
Thursday March 27, 2025 Weekday of Lent (3) Office: Psalter Week 3 Mass prop., preface of Lent Vestment: Violet Today’s Rosary: The Luminous Mystery
TODAY’S REFLECTION Listening is a virtue in itself, for it is only when we listen that we can learn and understand. Listening to the voice of God keeps us informed, wise and safe. Rebellious people never listen because they are stubborn. The Lord rejects those who harden their hearts and rebuff His voice but He blesses those who listen and adhere to His voice. Today God calls us to believe in Him and to gather with Him. Let us therefore heed the voice of God and lead holy lives as a people. “O that today you would listen to His voice harden not your hearts!”
PERSONAL DEVOTIONAL: LENT CHALLENGE DAY 20 What makes you to want to have everything to yourself even when you know that what you have will be enough for everyone is simply greed and selfishness. A selfish person only thinks of himself and in doing that, he or she feels that inner joy and satisfaction comes from having everything all to yourself, but in most cases the end result is emptiness and pain. You can end up packing all the food in the buffet table in panic that it will not get to you and fill your plate, only to realize later that a fresh and sumptuous portion has been given to those you thought you played a smart one upon.
Today, try as much as you can to consider others and share with them the good things of life that come to your way. Let it go round and you will be much happy and satisfied in the end.

Let us Pray
Lord Jesus, help me remain committed to the truth and contented in all you have given me as I share with my neighbours. Amen.
