The Beauty of Ancient Chinese Temples: Quanzhou's Chengtian Temple
Also known as Yuetai Temple, Chengtian Temple is renowned as the "Foremost Temple in Southern Fujian."
The temple was originally built between the 15th year of the Baoda era and the 1st year of the Zhongxing era of the Southern Tang dynasty (957–958 AD).
It was initially the southern garden of Liu Congxiao, the Prince of Jinjiang and the military governor of Qingyuan.
At its founding, it was named "Nanchan Temple."
In the fourth year of the Jingde era during the Northern Song dynasty (1007 AD), it was officially granted the name "Chengtian Temple" by imperial decree.
