Expected the photography & riding at @hestaland_ to be amazing - turned out it was even better: An absolute 10/10 from horses, people, photo sessions & handling, accommodation to food (which was more like a 100/10), in other words: I can recommend it with all my heart for any amateur or professional photographer, who enjoy riding as well (but not necessarily!) or just love being around horses. An all inclusive retreat for both your soul and improving your skills, perfectly adjustable for all levels.
I am particularly happy about the amazing feedback we got from all participants - planning the dates already for 2026!

It’s usually rather difficult to get recognized in the photography world being an equine photographer, so I am more than happy (and also a little bit proud 🥹) seeing Icelandic horses (aka most amazing horses in the world) displayed in a magazine like this. These horses simply deserve everything and more ❤️

After a day relaxing at the house we were up with the sun, riding through the mist. The Peshawar pack sometimes kennel at the house. If everything lines up with your stay you could be in for one of the most otherworldly rides possible.

Tölting through the highlands of the south of Iceland with the loose herd 🇮🇸

We ride from the highlands, through Thor’s Valley, though fields of purple lupine flowers, across rivers, back to the horses’ home farm.

What sets this ride apart is that you get a taste of everything. Black sands, glaciers, riding with the loose herd and Aníta’s home cooking at the grass roofed lodge at their home. The horses graze in the garden all around you. The ride is owner-guided for the deepest and most authentic experience possible.

This is a comfort tour. There is no staying 24 to a cabin in bunk beds and sleeping bags. Instead, you stay in twin-share hotel rooms and one night is in pretty bell tents with real beds. Single riders are very welcome - we’ll pair you up with another rider of the same gender. We connect everyone on WhatsApp before the ride so you have a feel of the group and can compare travel plans ahead of the ride. Make friends on trail.

The Lupine Ride dates are up for 2026. Just one date a year. Black Saddle exclusive so you know everyone will be able to ride. 16 guests riding with 60 horses. This is a fast ride. You barely walk at all when riding with the herd. If you’ve never experienced the smooth magic carpet feeling of an icelandics tölt you have to try it!
