US President Donald Trump thanked Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado after she presented him with her Nobel Peace Prize medal during a meeting at the White House.
Machado, who won the 2025 prize for her work promoting democracy and opposing Nicolás Maduro’s regime, described the gesture as recognition of Trump’s support for Venezuelan freedom. Trump called it a “wonderful gesture of mutual respect” and praised Machado as a “wonderful woman who has been through so much.”
The Norwegian Nobel Committee has clarified that Nobel Peace Prizes cannot be transferred or shared, and Machado remains the official laureate. The symbolic exchange came amid a sensitive moment in US–Venezuela relations, as the United States shapes its approach to the country’s political future following the capture of Maduro and leadership uncertainty in Caracas.

Earlier in 2025, Mary Kom confirmed that her nearly two-decades-long marriage to Karung Onkholer (Onler) had ended in divorce, but she did not disclose the reasons.
In a recent interview on Aap Ki Adalat, Mary Kom broke her silence, accusing her former husband of financial fraud and saying the alleged cheating shattered her trust and ultimately led to the breakdown of their marriage.
Responding to these claims, Onler spoke up and alleged that Mary Kom was involved in extramarital relationships first in 2013 with a junior boxer, and later in 2017 with someone associated with the Mary Kom Boxing Academy. He claimed the couple had reconciled after the first alleged incident for the sake of their family, but said the relationship continued to deteriorate over the years.
“I was her driver, I was her cook. I did everything for the house and family. I lived like her slave, but I did it out of love,” Onler said, adding that while they have obtained a divorce through a customary court, he feels hurt by what he called disrespectful and damaging accusations.

India’s Badminton Association refuted claims that playing conditions at the India Open are unsafe or unhygienic, stating that the main competition arena at New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium is well maintained and meets professional standards.
The response came after Danish shuttler Mia Blichfeldt criticised the conditions at the venue, saying players were warming up in cold, dusty surroundings that she described as “unhealthy” and not suitable for elite competition. She said the shift to a new hall had not brought the improvements she had hoped for, especially in warm-up areas where athletes prepare before matches.
BAI clarified that Blichfeldt’s remarks were not about the main playing arena, which it said is clean, dirt-free and pigeon-free. According to the association, her concerns were related to the training and warm-up facilities, and reflected her personal sensitivity to environmental factors rather than the tournament setup itself.
Blichfeldt, however, maintained that the overall environment affects player health and preparation, noting that warming up in winter jackets, gloves and layered clothing is not ideal for a sport that demands sudden movement and flexibility. She also said similar issues existed at the previous venue and urged organisers and the Badminton World Federation to intervene ahead of the World Championships scheduled to be held in India later this year.
Other international players echoed concerns about the cold conditions and drafts inside the stadium, even as many acknowledged that the main court itself is spacious and suitable for high-level play.
With India set to host the World Championships after 17 years, the debate has once again spotlighted the gap between athlete preparation spaces and the standards expected at global badminton events.
