Exploring Indonesia to Deepen My Cultural Connection through Traditional Dance.
Hey there! I'm Deena, an Indonesian, born and bred in Melbourne, Australia. I've always been curious about my Indonesian heritage, especially when it comes to dance. There's something magical about the stories woven into traditional Indonesian dances that just hits different when you're also on a journey to discover your own roots.
So, I decided to start this channel to document my adventures, track my dance progress, and hopefully, inspire and connect with all of you. Join me on this ride as I explore the wonders of Indonesia through the art of dance!

Excited to finally see the results of Gudang Garam's Kemerdekaan TVC that I had the pleasure of being part of recently. 3 days in Kediri for a 3 second part in the commercial.
Can you spot me?

I just posted a new blog on my website about Balinese Cremation Ceremonies – specifically the difference between Pelebon and Ngaben. 🕊️
I also touch on the concept of ngayah, and what it means for Balinese communities. It's a fascinating topic that explores culture, tradition, and the deep sense of community in Bali.
If you're curious about these beautiful ceremonies and what makes them so unique, check it out here: www.deenaverawati.com/ngayah-and-balis-sacred-cere…
Would love to hear what you think or any thoughts you might have on the subject! Feel free to share in the comments.

The foundation of Betawi dance starts with Mendhak, a low standing position with knees bent. It's important to note these two stances and understand when to use them.
There are 2 ways to Mendhak
1. Mendhak Cokek - where the upper body is upright
2. Mendhak Topeng - where the upper body is lowered
Watch here to see the two types of stances in action.

What do you struggle with most as a dancer?
I've always struggled with the idea of freestyle dance, and recently had to break through my fears for a collaborative performance in Bali.
