Nvidia is facing fresh allegations over how it sources training data for AI.
Court documents cited by TorrentFreak suggest Nvidia’s data strategy team explored paid, high-speed access to Anna’s Archive—a huge online collection of pirated books to train its AI models.
Reports claim the company looked at accessing around 500TB of data, despite internal warnings that the content was illegal. These allegations come amid a class-action lawsuit accusing Nvidia of copyright infringement linked to the Books3 dataset, known for containing pirated works.
Nvidia denies any wrongdoing, saying its training methods qualify as fair use and that there’s no proof the deal was ever finalized.
The case underscores a growing challenge in AI: models require massive datasets, but balancing scale with legality is increasingly tricky.
