One day, Mulla Nasruddin was sitting in the town square when a wealthy merchant proudly announced, “I can do anything better than anyone in this town!” Mulla smiled and challenged him, “I bet you cannot make my donkey laugh!” The merchant burst into laughter and immediately accepted the bet, confident that he would win easily.
The next morning, the merchant arrived with musicians, dancers, and comedians. They sang songs, performed funny dances, and made silly faces in front of the donkey. However, the donkey continued chewing hay without showing any interest. After hours of trying, the merchant became exhausted and admitted, “Mulla, this donkey is impossible to entertain!”
Mulla walked over to the donkey, whispered something into its ear, and stepped back. Suddenly, the donkey began making funny noises and jumping around. The townspeople burst into laughter. The merchant stared at Mulla in amazement and asked, “What did you whisper to make it laugh?” Mulla grinned and replied, “I told him that you would return tomorrow to entertain him again if he laughed today!”
The merchant laughed at Mulla’s clever trick and admitted defeat. ایک دن ملا نصرالدین شہر کے چوک میں بیٹھے تھے کہ ایک امیر تاجر فخر سے کہنے لگا، ’’میں اس شہر میں ہر کام دوسروں سے بہتر کر سکتا ہوں!‘‘ ملا مسکرائے اور اسے چیلنج دیتے ہوئے بولے، ’’میں شرط لگاتا ہوں کہ تم میرے گدھے کو ہنسا نہیں سکتے!‘‘ تاجر زور سے ہنسا اور فوراً شرط قبول کر لی۔ اسے یقین تھا کہ وہ یہ شرط آسانی سے جیت جائے گا۔
اگلی صبح تاجر اپنے ساتھ موسیقاروں، رقاصوں اور مزاحیہ فنکاروں کو لے کر آیا۔ انہوں نے گانے گائے، مزاحیہ رقص کیے اور گدھے کے سامنے عجیب و غریب شکلیں بنائیں۔ لیکن گدھا بغیر کسی دلچسپی کے سکون سے گھاس چباتا رہا۔ کئی گھنٹوں کی کوشش کے بعد تاجر تھک گیا اور بولا، ’’ملا صاحب! آپ کا گدھا تو کسی صورت خوش ہونے کا نام ہی نہیں لیتا!‘‘
ملا نصرالدین گدھے کے پاس گئے، اس کے کان میں آہستہ سے کچھ کہا اور پیچھے ہٹ گئے۔ اچانک گدھا عجیب آوازیں نکالنے اور اچھلنے کودنے لگا۔ شہر کے لوگ ہنس ہنس کر لوٹ پوٹ ہو گئے۔ تاجر حیرت سے ملا کو دیکھنے لگا اور پوچھا، ’’آپ نے اس کے کان میں کیا کہا تھا کہ یہ ہنسنے لگا؟‘‘ ملا مسکرائے اور بولے، ’’میں نے اسے بتایا کہ اگر وہ آج ہنس پڑا تو تم کل دوبارہ اسے ہنسانے کے لیے آ جاؤ گے!‘‘
تاجر ملا کی ذہانت پر ہنس پڑا اور اپنی شکست تسلیم کر لی۔ ملا نے اپنا انعام حاصل کیا اور بولے، ’’جیتنے کا راز ہمیشہ طاقت یا دولت نہیں ہوتا؛ کبھی کبھی تھوڑی سی عقل مندی ہی کافی ہوتی ہے!‘‘ شہر کے لوگوں نے ملا کی خوب تعریف کی اور سب نے سیکھا کہ ذہانت اور مزاح سے بظاہر ناممکن چیلنج کو بھی ایک دلچسپ کامیابی میں بدلا جا سکتا ہے۔
