Here are 7 principles from Bezos that you should steal today:



✨ 1. Start with the customer
You’re not building a project. You’re solving a customer’s problem. Everything should flow from that.



🚀 2. Failure isn’t the end — it’s the price of innovation
The Fire Phone flopped. Prime, AWS, Kindle? They didn’t. Bezos placed bets. So should you.



🎯 3. Long-term vision, short-term flexibility
Be stubborn on where you're going. But be flexible on how you get there.



⚡ 4. Stay in Day 1 mode
Day 2 is stasis. Followed by decline. Keep the urgency alive — even when things are going well.



📊 5. Use data — and your gut
If you have data, use it. If not, trust your intuition. Just don’t fly blind.

A few years ago, I nearly walked away from project management altogether.



I’d landed what should’ve been a dream role—near home, perfect timing for starting a family, and a chance to make a real impact. But beneath the polished exterior of the company was a threat no one wanted to talk openly about.



I was brought in to help improve project assurance. And when I did my job—honestly, thoroughly—it triggered something much bigger. Politics. Reputational damage. Isolation. I watched my credibility erode in real time.



At the exact moment I should’ve felt pure joy—seeing the first scan of my unborn son—I felt nothing but fear. I was on the verge of losing my job and had no idea how I could support my family.



I sidestepped telling this story for years. But a few years ago I was finally ready to share what I'd experienced because I recognised that I wasn't alone.



Sometimes doing the right thing doesn’t get you praise. It gets you punished. ⚡



But here's what I also learned:
💡 Toxic workplaces don’t just make you miserable. They can make you toxic too—more guarded, more combative, less like yourself.
💡 Climbing out of that hole took time. But I found my way back. Bit by bit, project by project, I rebuilt my confidence—and remembered why I loved this work in the first place.
💡 Politics - corporate politics specifically - exists to some extent in all organisations. Ignoring it or refusing to participate does not make you immune to its effect.



If you’re going through something like this—know that it doesn’t have to be the end.
