A lot of you really liked the short I did with my Rodrick cosplay. Did you know I also make REGULAR videos? Did you know my latest video only got SIX HUNDRED views??? Go check ts out cuh!!! and leave a comment pretty please maybe i can salvage it somehow
Got my first ‘sponsor’ today—it was a scam. Don’t worry, I didn’t click any suspicious links, I’m smarter than that. Still disappointing.
Then, my video on HORROR MOVIES uploaded on HALLOWEEN for SOME REASON wasn’t getting picked up in the algorithm. Shortly after it cemented itself as my worst performing video, it got fucking age restricted.
Why does this website repeatedly give me the smallest doses of success before pulling the fucking rug right under me again? And why do I keep falling for it?
Happy halloween. I’m taking a small break. Goodnight.
'I don't want to immediately start off this review with bashing Season 1 of MAPPA's Chainsaw Man--because I left my theater thoroughly enjoying this movie and wanting to praise it. Every day leading up to this movie, I kept seeing the same tweets in the Chainsaw Man community that I follow: 'the movie looks great, but Season 1 was still good, too!' and 'Don't let the movie distract you from the fact that people called Season 1's animation bad.'
This movie is EVERYTHING I wanted Season 1 to look like and more.
Now, obviously, a TV budget can't account for some of the wild things that happen in this film--but even a FOURTH of this movie's sauce would be enough for me to call a hypothetical Tatsuya Yoshihara-ran Season 1 a flawless adaption. It fixed so many things I found off about the first season's animation; the slow fight scenes, the strange-looking character sheets, and the CGI are all gone--however, they kept Nakayama's cinematic direction and amazing camera work, leading to a gorgeous end product that fully encapsulates the feel of the manga. It even has moments within it that surpassed it in my eyes.
This is the most visually stunning movie I've seen since Look Back, another film I can attribute to the director's understanding of Fujimoto's style. The colors are beautiful, the camera work is fantastic, the action is fast and visceral, and the linework is incredible. The camera angles and shot composition feel so...cinematic in a way most anime movies can't pull off--but THIS movie does. The story doesn't disappoint, either. I was initially hesitant at the prospect of the Reze Arc being put on the big screen because I was worried they'd cut content, but this was the best possible decision they could've made. I never even realized how much this arc wraps itself in a nice little bow by the end; this movie does a lot of things I think most television-to-movie anime don't do, which is have a central theme all throughout. While yes, knowledge of the series helps, you can absolutely watch this as someone not into Chainsaw Man and still walk out satisfied.
For other, smaller things of note: the dub voice actors killed it--very happy with how Aki's voice actor improved since the first season. Certain line deliveries, paired with the outstanding animation, made it feel like I was watching something properly ACTED--not just 'dubbed' over. Very western-esque in it's presentation, no doubt intentional due to Fujimoto's Hollywood inspirations.
The soundtrack is also killer.
I have 0 complaints. Season 1 was an amazing, cinematic anime with great animation--but in my mind, it wasn't 'Chainsaw Man.' It just had too many little flaws for me to fully back it as an adaption. This movie, though...
