It's no secret to the frequent viewers of my channel that I detest Twitch. Unfortunately, because there aren't any other viable streaming services out there, I still go to the site for amusement. I would argue that a majority of the users of the platform, streamers and viewers, are complete snowflakes. But evidently the platform, itself, seems to have its own set of issues.
First, I was suspended for what they referred to as "Hateful Conduct". What did I do? I made fun of xenophobes in Estonia. Yeah, kind of a niche topic, but anyone with a brain would have figured this out upon reading the chat. Unfortunately for me, Twitch picked this up and suspended me for seven days, probably because of some AI bot not getting the nuance.
I appealed, and almost immediately my suspension was lifted. But later in the afternoon, I was suspended, again. This time, they claimed it was for "Repeatedly Harassing Others". What did I do? Went into various streams I follow and pasted "ⓘ This message cannot be viewed in your region." in their chat. This was, mostly, received positively and many people laughed and even copy/pasted it in chat.
However, one stream chat, Limmy, didn't like this and timed me out. Very shortly after this was when I received the second suspension. I have appealed, but who knows how that will go given this is the SECOND SUSPENSION OF MY ACCOUNT IN AN AFTERNOON.
It would be great if sites like YouTube or Kick had a comparable service to Twitch, because I would never go back to that site again. But alas, it stands alone as the sole livestreaming site that is remotely worth using. Kick is getting better, but they still have a ways to go. YouTube, nowhere close.
Don't think this just happens to me. Today, another streamer I watch, @NoahUN , was also suspended. Two other streamers I had talked to today had also said that they plan to leave Twitch at some point when there is a more viable option. Almost everyone seems to agree that Twitch is dying.
Someone, anyone: make a better site than Twitch. I beg you.
I just want to take a moment to update you on one of the effects the government shutdown will have to you or your loved ones who depend on SNAP benefits to purchase food.
The Trump administration announced that the USDA cannot use contingency funds to supplement the SNAP program for the month of November. In addition to the new work requirements passed by the Republican Congress, even when SNAP funding is restored when the government is once again funded, families will have a harder time being able to qualify for a program that has helped hundreds of millions of people since its inception.
Many people, including myself, have been on SNAP at some point in their lives. Tens of millions of people are currently enrolled in the program. For many, SNAP is the only way they can make it through each month with food to eat. I, myself, am currently a recipient of SNAP benefits due to the unfortunate events I had chronicled on my channel previously. As such, come November, I will not have any way to obtain food. I can only imagine how many others will be affected similarly without the aid of this program.
But at the same time as the USDA announces they will not fund SNAP benefits next month through their contingency fund, the White House is getting a $300 million ballroom. At the same time the Trump administration illegally moves $8 billion to fund military pay, the same administration says using contingency fund monies for the USDA to fund SNAP would be illegal.
And what is the issue at hand keeping the government shutdown? Whether to keep your health insurance premiums low with government subsidies. For those who are enrolling for policies that take effect next year, there's already an abundance of sticker shock and many are failing to sign up as a result.
Not only do we go hungry, but we'd better not get sick in the process. That's what your Republican legislators are basically telling the American populace.
I realize that society as a whole has the attention span and memory of a goldfish, and we'll forget how horrible things can get in a relatively short period of time. How else did the person who botched everything around the COVID-19 pandemic get elected four years removed? But for those of you who continue to vote against your own interests and elect the Republicans who are now starving out a good chunk of the country, I want you to keep this in mind the next election we have. And the one after that. And the one after that. Because no matter how much the rich morons want you to forget that we have the power to remove their influence from our government, they cannot take our collective voice. It may not seem like one vote will make much of a difference, but like a snowball rolling down a mountainside, eventually comes an avalanche that will wipe out government cronyism and inaction. Do not forget how you feel right now, scared about your future, when the Republicans who did nothing but give tax cuts to the rich while cutting off your access to food ask for your support.

But I've been diagnosed with gender dysphoria and have actively been making transition choices, such as growing my hair out (which is why it's such a mess rn). Kirby knew this and decided it would be a good idea to drop the 'f' bomb on me one day, which resulted in a weeklong suspension. During this time, he created an alt account and sent hate followers to my channel.
None of this really bothers me. There are ignorant people everywhere, and I've learned to tolerate them as a way of life. What REALLY bothered me, however, is that a few people decided to ACTUALLY SIDE WITH KIRBY on this, as if calling a marginalized minority a slur was perfectly appropriate. I was even banned from a stream because of it. They sided with a bigot, and that's what hurt.
Which brings me to my point. Behind every keyboard, phone, tablet, etc. lies a human being. As someone with an internet presence, I struggle to remember that sometimes. This parasocial relationship that we have...I'm never going to know who you are. But your words still have power. Your actions still have power. And despite having a thick skin about most things in life, I'm hurt about this. Not because of the original messages, but because of those few people who said it was OK for him to do it through their words and actions. Frankly, you should be ashamed of yourselves.
For the last time, I'm not making any more Eminem memes. I'm sorry it means you unsubscribe, leave a stupid comment, or whatever. But please know you're not in any way hurting my feelings by going away.
I got the laptop! It will be here in roughly a week! Until then, I'm going to take a breather from this channel and work on moving the music videos to my other channel, Proof Of Concept! Be sure to go drop that channel a sub!
