30 Feature films. 3 shorts. Countless interviews. I’ve been working on this video for the last couple of months and have started editing. Let’s talk about Brian De Palma soon.

Hey everyone!

I know it’s been a while, and I’m sorry for that. This year I’ve had to move house, and I have many things in my life that take priority over this channel. However, I’ve recently rebranded and am deep into the editing process of my next video, which will be a comprehensive look at Terrence Malick.

See you soon!

Love,

10000 Subscribers!

I am truly grateful for everyone’s support! When I started this channel, I accepted the fact that what I want to talk about is esoteric, so to connect with so many people is completely unexpected.

Our world would be so dull and practically unbearable without the incredible artists (not just within film) that enrich our lives. Whether they’re well known or more obscure, I have huge admiration for anyone who creates. And yet as important as art and creativity are to us all, they are undeniably under siege right now. Of course I can’t do much to change things myself haha, but what I can do is continue to celebrate the beauty of film and human creativity.

Lastly, I apologise I haven’t uploaded in a little while. As much as I love to create, YouTube is just a hobby for me, and right now I’m busy prioritising my work and studies. In this modern world, building a life is extremely challenging, but all one can do in life is their best!

I shall return…

Love always,

Joe ❤️

P.S. Here is a group of images that currently inspire me (and the earliest subscriber screenshot I could find) 🟦🌸

Hey everyone!

I don’t tend to announce what I’m working on, but I had to make an exception here. For my next video, I’ll be exploring Blue Velvet and paying tribute to the late David Lynch. David and his works are very dear to me, so it’s taken me a while to come to terms with his passing. See you soon.

Happy holidays, everyone!

Due to work commitments, there unfortunately will be no upload this month, but I’m itching to get back to creating and will return in January. Next year I have so many directors and films I’d like to cover from all over the world, including Asia, America, and Europe, which is a region that is notably sparse on the channel thus far. In the meantime I will leave you with some of my favourite films I’ve seen from this year. While most of my personal watching is retrospective, there are still great films emerging in the current cinematic landscape. I’m sure you will see these films on many end-of-the year lists, but I still wanted to personally highlight them.

Thank you as always for being here

Love,

Hey everyone!

What a journey it’s been. Over 6 months ago I first uploaded my essay on Mulholland Drive, and in the preceding months I found myself completely lost in the world of David Lynch. What started out as a stand-alone essay quickly became two, and then three, and now I have written essays on four of David’s films, including the entire L.A. Trilogy. As a bonus video this month (which will be released tomorrow), I decided to combine the entire L.A. Trilogy into a single cohesive experience. I have taken this opportunity to make some visual improvements (such as subtitles) to my Mulholland Dr. essay, as well as including a few hundred-word epilogue that ties all of the films together. At over an hour in length, this is my ultimate portrait of David Lynch, and while not perfect, I am extremely proud of the work that I have done here.

Finally, I just want to say that I am incredibly grateful to all of you who watch and interact with my videos and for all of your support on the individual essays in this series. I am very excited for the new community features that YouTube plans to introduce next year, and I hope it allows us to interact with each other more. The current community tab feels very one-sided, functioning more as a mouthpiece for the creator than helping a community flourish, so this is a much-needed improvement. Anyway, thank you for supporting my small channel on this corner of the internet.

Love always,

Hey everyone, I hope you’re doing well. Whenever I create, I always try to push myself and work in a place out of my depth so for my next video I decided to explore one of the greatest directors to ever live in David Lynch (I can hardly call myself an Auteur channel without covering him at least once !) Little did I realise just how difficult it would be to turn Lynch into words due to the highly abstract and subjective nature of his films. After 10s of hours of research and writing, I just completed the first draft of my script, which currently stands at close to 4000 words (for context my previous record was around 2300.) This video is probably going to be between 25-30 mins long, and is by far the most time consuming and ambitious project I have tackled. Anyway, the film I’ll be exploring is Lynch’s magnum opus, Mulholland Drive. It’s going to take me a while to finalise this script and edit this video, but I can’t wait to share it. Thank you as always for your continued support. It blows my mind that anyone would watch my content, and I am grateful to every single one of you who watches, likes, comments etc. I am only a small channel, so thank you once again for taking a chance on me.

See you soon 🙌🏼

Hey everyone, it’s been a while since I posted on the community tab so I hope you’re all keeping well. I’m around 1000 words deep on my next script and it’s for one of my all time favourites. I’m trying to make this video to the absolute best of my ability, so I really hope you enjoy it. See you next week !

Hey everyone ! I hope you’re all keeping well ! I have just finished my script for my next video, where I’ll be talking about Past Lives. Most people seem to focus on the love story contained within it, but I want to take things in a different direction. As always I can’t wait to share it ! See you soon ❤️
