Yodeling is a part of many different cultures. For Koreans, the word "Yodel" automatically equates to Switzerland only. Thus, they find it hard to believe that yodeling exists outside of Switzerland.

Likewise, foreigners from other countries are similarly surprised when I introduce myself as a yodel advocate from Korea. They, too, find it hard to believe that Koreans yodel.

Perhaps we are all caught up in, and bound by stereotypes that makes such situations possible. What I would like to suggest here, is that yodeling truly is present all over the world. We are just not aware that different nationalities sing yodels.

Based on my experiences, yodeling is a common thread which connect strangers from different origins. Yodeling allowed me to travel the world and meet fellow yodel-enthusiasts. Even though we speak different languages, we have yodeling to help us understand each other. For me, the yodel is a song for all mankind 🙂

The first batch of Yodel Letters is scheduled to be sent out today.
The Yodel Letter has been sent since 2013 to yodelers around the world who have maintained a connection with World Yodel Day. This year, in particular, we received so many applications—even from people I don't know personally—that it became impossible to send to everyone. Therefore, I am making this new announcement.
📮 Guide on How to Receive a Yodel Letter
Receiving a Yodel Letter is simple, but it is not available to everyone.
First, find and follow the Yodelstamp account on Instagram, then send a DM expressing your desire to receive a Yodel Letter. At least that level of minimal interest and sincerity is required.
However, doing this does not guarantee that you will receive a Yodel Letter immediately.
💰 The Meaning of 8.80 USD
The Yodel Letter is not free. You must pay a symbolic amount of 8.80 USD. This amount is not merely a cost; it serves as a minimum standard and a barrier to entry to verify whether you are someone who truly desires a Yodel Letter. If this amount feels burdensome, please stop here.
📦 Delivery Criteria
The Yodel Letter is sent to only the first 200 people each year, prioritizing yodelers who have consistently communicated with World Yodel Day.
Since all letters are handcrafted, it is difficult to handle large volumes, and this project is essentially not for profit, but to share meaning.
📸 After Receiving the Letter (The Most Important Step)
The true value of the Yodel Letter begins the moment you receive it.
After receiving the letter, take a verification photo and upload it to your Instagram. This helps the Yodel Letter become known to more yodelers. Also, create a video about your thoughts and feelings after reading the letter. Share this video with the Instagram account Yodelstamp. These collected videos will be shared globally on World Yodel Day, August 8.
🌍 The Meaning of the Yodel Letter
The Yodel Letter is not just a simple letter.
It is a process of connection where one person's yodeling story is shared with other yodelers, allowing them to empathize with it, re-evaluate their own thoughts on yodeling, and lead to new stories.
This is the most important reason why Yodel Letters exist.

We have received news through Australian Yodeler that Frank Ifield, a legendary yodeler representing Australia and the UK, passed away last Saturday (May 18, 2024, Sydney time) at the age of 86. Another legendary yodeler has become a star in the sky. May his deceased soul rest in peace.

This video introduces the book Tirolerei in der Schweiz [Tirole Yodel in Switzerland], published in 2020 by Raymond Ammann, who is currently a retired researcher at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts. 'The history of the yodel, and how did it survive?' This is a video created from the author's text with the consent of the original author.

As the author himself stated, this study is the first study on yodeling and its eventful history from the Alps in the 19th century to today's cities, and outlines the eventful history of yodel. In addition, he provides insight into the new birth of yodel in the 21st century from a very unique perspective.

According to the author, today yodel is seen as something that connects people and is no longer seen as a way to distinguish oneself from others. Additionally, people interested in playing yodel today do not see it as a means of drawing cultural boundaries and building identity; They say they see it as an opportunity for new individual and musical experiences, both as individuals and as a group.

Raymond Ammann studied ethnomusicology in Switzerland and qualified as a professor in 2001 at the Leopold Franzens University in Innsbruck, where he teaches and conducts research at the Institute of Musicology. He concentrates his research on music in Oceania, the polar region and the Alps.
