Iran-backed Iraqi militia suspected of a drone strike in Jordan that killed three US soldiers says it has suspended operations against US forces.
Kataib Hezbollah, which is part of an umbrella group that claimed Sunday's attack, said this was "to prevent the embarrassment of the Iraqi government".
The US Defence Department said: "Actions speak louder than words."
US President Joe Biden meanwhile said he had decided how to respond to the attack but did not elaborate.
Iran warned it would retaliate against any attack on its "interests".
Earlier, it denied US and British accusations that it was involved in the attack.
The US has hinted at an armed response that might come in several waves.
Kataib Hezbollah Secretary-General Abu Hussein al-Hamidawi said in a statement on Tuesday that they will continue to defend the people in Gaza in other ways.
The three US soldiers were killed at a base next to the Jordanian-Syrian border by a "type of Shahed drone", the one-way attack drones Iran has been providing to Russia.
Dozens more soldiers were injured in the attack on Tower 22, which was struck while US forces were asleep in their bunks.
The US has blamed Iran-backed groups and has not yet conclusively determined that Kataib Hezbollah was behind it.
However, a Pentagon spokeswoman said it carried "the footprints" of the group.
In a tragic development, two teenage sisters have been kidnapped by gunmen suspected to be bandits at Guita community, Chikakore in Kubwa, Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
This is coming barely eight days after the Chikakore community protested to the office of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, over the terrible state of the major road linking their community which they described as one of the causes of serial kidnapping in the area.
The kidnappers reportedly returned last Sunday around 11:25pm despite the patrol of military men and policemen in the area.
VOP News gathered that gunmen numbering six, made away the girls, who were said to be 16 and 14 years old through the forests and hills in the area.
A police source in the area, who confirmed their kidnap today said the attackers took three of a man's children, two girls and one boy, but they went away with two girls and sent back the boy to tell their father to prepare N30 million as the ransom.
An officer of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Kazeem Yusuf, yesterday, told a Federal Capital Territory, FCT, High Court that N4.6 billion was allegedly diverted to organize prayer for Nigeria.
Yusuf spoke while testifying as the second prosecution witness in the trial of a former Minister of State for Finance, Bashir Yuguda.
Yuguda is standing trial alongside former National Security Adviser, NSA; Col Sambo Dasuki (retd); former Sokoto State governor, Attahiru Bafarawa; his son, Sagir, and Dalhatu Investment Limited, a company owned by Bafarawa.
The defendants are facing 25 counts of misappropriation, criminal breach of trust, and receiving stolen property.
Led in evidence by EFCC counsel, Rotimi Jacobs, the witness said an investigation was carried out after the commission received a petition from the Office of the National Security Adviser, ONSA.
He said the investigation revealed that “Dalhatu Investment Limited was one of the 78 companies alleged to have received money from ONSA without any documents to show that they bided for contracts.”
Yusuf said an analysis of the statement of account of Dalhatu Investment Limited by EFCC from UBA revealed that the company got N4.6 billion from the Office of the National Security Adviser.
He added that the amount was paid in installments between 2014 and 2015, noting that N783 million, being part of the money, came from the SAS account.
Yusuf said in a written statement, that Sagir, who represented the company, told the EFCC that “the money was meant for prayers for the country because of the insecurity prevalent at that time.”
He said Sagir later gave a breakdown of how the N4.6 billion was spent, including a list of beneficiaries.
The witness said Senator Abdallah Wali, who received N580 million from the company, told EFCC that the money was meant for his governorship election campaign in Sokoto in 2015.
He also told the EFCC team that the former secretary of the Pilgrims and Welfare Agency, PWA, in Sokoto State, Muazu Madawaki, received N322 million, which he claimed was for payment of hajj seats for some Sokoto indigenes.
The witness said other beneficiaries listed include former Sokoto chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Ibrahim Maigoma, who received N111 million; Yahaya Dada (N327,549,000); Sani Kabir (N159 million); INEC (N293,500,000), among others.
The witness told the court that parts of the money meant for supplies of security equipment, including hand-held devices, were used to procure a Lexus car, a Hilux van, and 16 Peugeot 206 cars which were distributed to PDP local government chairmen in Sokoto.
However, he stated that 14 of the Peugeot 206 vehicles were recovered in the course of the investigation.
The witness said one Amanze Obi received N15.3 million for political publicity for Bafawara’s 2015 presidential campaign.
Okechukwu Isiguzoro, a chieftain of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, has slammed President Bola Tinubu over his private visit to Paris, France, amid the current security, economic, and other pressing challenges facing Nigeria.
Isiguzoro said Tinubu should have dutifully transmitted power to Vice President Kashim Shettima following the law.
The factional Secretary-General of Ohanaeze urged Tinubu to transmit power to allow Shettima to address the prevailing security challenges confronting the country.
A statement by Isiguzoro urged the president to consistently communicate the reasons behind engaging in private visits to the Nigerian people.
According to the statement: “Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the unwavering voice of the Igbo, finds it both intriguing and deeply unfortunate that President Tinubu chose a private visit to France
“We hereby implore the President to dutifully fulfill his constitutional obligations by formally transmitting power to Vice President Kashim Shettima in his absence.
“Nigerians are already suffering immensely due to the escalating security challenges and the dire state of our economy, exacerbated by the crash of the naira in foreign exchange markets. The consequences of neglecting these pressing issues pose a severe risk, as the potential fallout could be nothing short of disastrous.
“Ohanaeze Ndigbo fervently prays for President Tinubu to be endowed with divine wisdom in navigating these troubled times. We implore him to recognize the urgent need for proactively resolving the security and economic crises afflicting our nation, as the fate of Nigeria and the wellbeing of its citizens remain at stake.”
