The Wii Virtual Console release was the only official release of the game outside Japan.
FC Snow Brothers The protagonists of this game are two snowmen, Nick and Tom. Players control them to defeat enemies by turning them into snowballs, with the goal of rescuing the kidnapped queen.

This title marks a clear departure from the developer’s previous focus on shooting games, showcasing a fresh new creative direction.
Regardless of age or version, this game has always been highly expensive. The photo shown is of a brand-new copy, which was sold at auction on October 11, 2025, for NT$109,456.

Jin Akiyama’s Math Mystery
This title was not sold through game retailers, but rather as a CD-ROM included with a mook (magazine-book hybrid) sold in bookstores. In fact, it's more accurate to say that the book was the bonus and the CD-ROM the main product. It was published by the Japan Broadcasting Publishing Association, better known as the publishing division of NHK. This CD-ROM software (which, strictly speaking, can hardly be called a "game") was released as part of NHK’s multimedia strategy and intended as a math education tool. The “main character” is Professor Jin Akiyama — the uniquely styled, TV-personality-like mathematician who was frequently featured in NHK programs.
This product was essentially a “fun educational CD-ROM that lets you learn through play, starring a celebrity-like mathematician.” At the time, CD-ROMs were still a novelty to the general public.
Core Information About This Title:
Release Method: Not sold through game stores; instead, distributed as a CD-ROM supplement to a book sold in bookstores.
Publisher: Japan Broadcasting Publishing Association (NHK Publishing).
Genre: Educational math software, including puzzle-based adventure segments and math problems.
Main Figure: Jin Akiyama — a well-known, eccentric mathematician with the air of a celebrity, frequently appearing on NHK.
Platform: PC Engine CD-ROM (including DUO); not a standard PC platform.
Purpose: Part of NHK’s multimedia initiative, combining education, video, and interactive elements.
Why Choose the PC Engine?
At the time, CD-ROM system options were limited and included:
Fujitsu’s FM-TOWNS / MARTY
NEC’s PC-98 “Multi” / CanBe
Mega Drive with Mega CD
The unmaterialized PlayStation prototype (SFC-CD project failed)
But the most widely adopted CD-ROM platform at the time was the PC Engine CD-ROM² / DUO. Therefore, NHK’s choice of the PC Engine as its platform was based on practical market considerations, not some random decision.
However:
For PC Engine gamers, this wasn’t the kind of title they were looking to buy;
For those interested in math, it was unlikely they'd purchase a game console just for this software;
The result was a mismatch in market targeting, leading to poor sales performance.
This illustrates a common issue seen in the early 1990s: attempts to use game consoles for educational purposes often suffered from a disconnect between user demand and product goals.
This NHK-produced educational math CD-ROM title for the PC Engine is a classic example of early-CD-ROM-era experimentation with non-game content on a game console. Its unusual concept and market mismatch have made it a cult item among gaming historians — a rare, obscure, and legendary artifact.
On July 20, 2025, a brand-new, unopened copy of this software was put up for auction and sold for NT$259,074.
On September 27, 1988, NEC released a 15-inch CRT monitor known only by its model number, “PC-KD863G,” without an official product name. It was priced at ¥138,000 JPY.
The PC-KD863G had a built-in PC Engine console. Simply connecting a controller and inserting a HuCARD (the name for PC Engine’s game card format) allowed users to immediately enjoy games.
What made the PC-KD863G particularly impressive was not only its built-in PC Engine but also its use of RGB video output. The image signal was transmitted directly from the console to the screen, producing crisp, vivid visuals without excessive color saturation.
Despite its excellent visual performance, the steep price of ¥138,000 placed it in the realm of high-end, dream-tier machines. It was typically purchased by companies that produced strategy guides. However, the unit had limited expandability. When the Super CD-ROM format was introduced later on, many developers began releasing their games exclusively on that platform. As a result, HuCARD games became less common, and since the PC-KD863G could not connect to a Super CD-ROM system, its value gradually diminished, eventually leading it to fade from the market.
Source: QK小虎 (QK Little Tiger).
Even as a used item, the PC-KD863G remains quite expensive. One unit was sold on June 28, 2025, for NT$190,908.

FM-TOWNS / MARTY
Mega Drive + Mega CD
PC Engine CD-ROM² / DUO
However:
For PC Engine gamers, this wasn’t the kind of title they were looking to buy;
For those interested in math, it was unlikely they'd purchase a game console just for this software;

----PC-KD863G----

Even as a used item, the PC-KD863G remains quite expensive. One unit was sold on June 28, 2025, for NT$190,908.
