HogOn TV – Welding, Hustle & Real-Life Lessons
This channel is my evolution. I started as Hog-On Welding, grinding in the field. Then came Hog-On University, where I began teaching and passing on the game. Now it’s Hog-On TV—the full story of my journey.
I’m a Black welder, entrepreneur, and artist who went from serving 10 years in Arkansas State Prison to building a career, a business, and a brand in the welding industry. Here you’ll see my start-up grind, my growth, my flaws, and the hustle it takes to turn skill into independence.
From RV tips that went viral, to welding business strategies, to raw conversations about life after incarceration—this channel documents the real path to freedom through skill.
H.O.G.O.N. means Hustling Over Grounded Obstacles Naturally—and that’s the code I live by. My mission is to inspire welders, hustlers, students, and anyone who’s been told there’s no way forward. There is. Welding can be that way.
If my videos bring value to you, share them!

The Welding Shortage Is Real.🇺🇸🌎
But The Bigger Question Is — Who’s Building The Solution?
Eight months ago, I wrote about the difference between CWI, CWE, and Welding Instructor.
That conversation sparked dialogue around credentials and experience.
But as we enter a new year, the conversation has to get bigger.
Because the industry doesn’t just need more welders.
It needs:
More instructors who can actually weld.
More inspectors who understand production reality.
More entrepreneurs who can build fabrication companies.
More innovators designing better systems, booths, ventilation, automation, and mobile labs.
More donors and partners willing to invest in infrastructure.
The American Welding Society has projected workforce shortages in the hundreds of thousands.
But here’s the part most people miss:
This isn’t just an employer problem.
It’s an education, entrepreneurship, and innovation problem.
At Arkansas Baptist College, We’re Not Just Teaching Beads.
Inside our welding labs, we are:
• Teaching multiple learning styles
• Reinforcing safety culture
• Breaking down theory and immediately applying it
• Preparing students for certifications
• Teaching blueprint reading
• Teaching fabrication logic
• Teaching ownership mindset
One of my students said something that stuck with me:
“A lot of schools haze you or avoid certain questions. But here, you show us the video, we break it down, and then we do exactly what we watched. I can’t just write it down — I have to do it.”
That’s intentional.
Some students learn by writing.
Some by watching.
Some by doing.
We do all three.
Because the goal isn’t just passing a test.
The goal is producing skilled, confident tradespeople who can enter industry or build their own.
The Industry Needs More Than Employees
We need:
• Fabrication business owners
• Welding inspectors
• Certified educators
• Engineers with hands-on experience
• Shop managers
• Mobile welding lab innovators
• Tool designers
• Automation integrators
The future of welding will not be built by one lane.
It will be built by people who understand the whole system.
I’ve welded in the field.
I’ve fabricated in shops.
I’ve engineered production systems.
I’ve taught students.
I’ve taken the certification exams.
When you understand the ecosystem, you teach differently.
And when you teach differently — students grow differently.
Here’s Where You Come In
If you are:
• A company needing skilled welders
• An industry leader wanting to invest in workforce development
• A donor wanting to fund equipment, PPE, or booth expansion
• A professional who wants to visit and see what we’re building
• A student ready to enroll
We are building something real.
Let’s scale it.

🔥 We’re Not Just Teaching Welding — We’re Rebuilding Pathways.
Something powerful is happening inside our welding labs.
We’re not just striking arcs. We’re rebuilding confidence. We’re rebuilding work ethic. We’re rebuilding opportunity.
At Arkansas Baptist College, inside the META24 Welding Program, students aren’t just learning how to weld steel.
They’re learning:
• Discipline
• Blueprint reading
• Tool mastery
• Problem solving
• Team coordination
• Economic self-worth
And here’s the bigger picture most people miss:
Welding isn’t just a trade. It’s infrastructure. It’s manufacturing. It’s construction. It’s defense. It’s energy. It’s mobility. It’s economic mobility.
Every bridge, building, pipeline, data center, hospital, and commercial structure relies on skilled trades.
Yet we keep telling young people college debt is the only path.
What if we scaled skill instead of debt?
What if we funded mobile welding labs instead of more empty lecture halls?
What if we built container-based trade campuses that can deploy into communities in 90 days?
That’s what we’re working on.
META24 isn’t just a program. It’s a workforce strategy.
And we’re just getting started.
If you’re in:
• Workforce development • Manufacturing • Economic development • Philanthropy • Corporate sponsorship • Skilled trades advocacy
Let’s connect.
Because skill is the new leverage.

Sometimes you wake up and realize…
The things you once believed in,
The promises you once held onto,
The people you once trusted,
The dreams you once chased…
Don’t hit the same anymore.
And that’s not bitterness.
That’s growth.
What once motivated you might now limit you.
What once felt like destiny might now feel like distraction.
What once looked like love might now look like a lesson.
Elevation requires reevaluation.
Don’t feel guilty for outgrowing old promises.
Some were seasonal.
Some were necessary.
Some were stepping stones to who you’re becoming.
Every new level demands new standards.
Sometimes clarity doesn’t come from gaining something new…
It comes from realizing what no longer fits.

Lesson of the Day 🔥
GTAW Breakdown (TIG Welding)
Slow is smooth. Smooth is clean.
Today we’re locking in torch angle, puddle control, and filler timing—the fundamentals that separate running a bead from understanding the process.
This is where patience turns into precision.
This is where students level up.

When the Cross Shifts Shoulders
I went to church today and heard a message called “When the Cross Shifts Shoulders.”
And I’ll be honest—it was a powerful message.
The story centered on Simon of Cyrene—the man who helped Jesus carry the cross. What stood out to me was this: Simon didn’t sign up for that moment. He didn’t wake up that day looking for a mission. He was simply going to Passover when a soldier called him out and assigned him a burden he never asked for.
That part hit me.
Because life does that to us sometimes.
You don’t always choose the weight you carry.
Sometimes the assignment chooses you.
What made the story even deeper was learning that Simon wasn’t “just another Simon.” He was from Cyrene—North Africa. Scripture doesn’t include details like that by accident. It reminds us that purpose shows up in unexpected people, unexpected places, and unexpected moments.
The message also confirmed something I’ve felt for a long time.
I enjoyed being there. I respected the word.
But it reminded me that my mission isn’t inside a building.
Jesus didn’t stay confined to temples. He walked. He taught in the streets. He led by example. And when things were out of alignment, he wasn’t afraid to flip tables.
Some people are called to gather.
Others are called to go.
And I know which one I am.
What I took away today is this:
When a burden shows up in your life—when something heavy lands on your shoulders—it’s not always punishment. Sometimes it’s positioning. Sometimes there’s a purpose behind the weight, even if you didn’t ask for it.
There’s meaning behind the cross you carry.
It may be there to help someone else.
Or it may be there to prepare you for the next stage of who you’re becoming.
Either way, when the cross shifts shoulders, the mission has already begun.

🧠 Personal Brand — Joe L. Brown Jr. | The Richest Welder
Mission:
To show how a skilled tradesman can turn lived experience, mindset, and discipline into freedom, ownership, and legacy.
⚙️ Your Welding Coach
Mission:
To help welders and tradespeople turn hands-on skills into income, systems, and scalable opportunities beyond the jobsite.
🎥 Hog On TV
Mission:
To use culture, commentary, and real conversation to attract attention, spark thinking, and challenge how people view work, money, and identity.
Now here’s the blog that ties it all together 👇
🔥 From Skill to System: How I’m Building a 3-Lane Brand on Purpose
Most people see content online and think it’s random.
What they don’t see is the structure behind it.
I’m not just posting videos.
I’m building a system—one that turns skills into leverage, attention into opportunity, and experience into legacy.
That system runs in three intentional lanes.
🧠 Lane 1: The Personal Brand — Joe L. Brown Jr. | The Richest Welder
This lane is about identity and philosophy.
It’s where I talk about:
Mindset
Life lessons
Ownership
Freedom
What it really means to build wealth as a tradesman
This brand exists to show that welding isn’t the ceiling—it’s the foundation.
I use my personal journey to help people see what’s possible when discipline meets vision.
This is the lane that builds trust.
⚙️ Lane 2: Your Welding Coach — The Education & Income Engine
This is where the teaching lives.
Your Welding Coach is focused on:
Welding skills
Blueprint reading
Shop knowledge
Career strategy
Turning skills into income and systems
This is where I help welders stop thinking only in terms of hours worked and start thinking in terms of assets built.
If the personal brand inspires you,
Your Welding Coach equips you.
This is the lane where:
Students learn
Tradespeople level up
eBooks and programs create real value
🎥 Lane 3: Hog On TV — The Amplifier
Hog On TV is about reach and culture.
It’s fast. It’s raw. It’s commentary. It’s conversation.
This lane exists to:
Pull attention at scale
Spark curiosity
Get people thinking differently
Funnel awareness into the deeper work
Not everyone is ready for education yet.
Some people just need to stop scrolling and start thinking.
That’s what Hog On TV does.
🧠 Why I Built It This Way
Most creators try to do everything on one page:
Teach
Inspire
Entertain
Sell
That leads to burnout and confusion.
I separated the lanes so each one has a clear job:
One builds trust
One builds income
One builds attention
Together, they create an ecosystem that works even when I’m not posting nonstop.

Final Thought
I’m not building pages.
I’m building paths.
If you have a skill, a story, and the discipline to learn,
you can build something that pays—without burning out your body or your time.
This is what I’m building.
And I’m doing it in real time.
