This halibut sculpture is carved from a large slab of silver maple and features abalone shell eyes. Like its living counterpart the halibut in this carving blends with its surroundings perfectly.

These dorado are constructed of quilted maple wood with bronze fins. One of my favorite details of this sculpture is the abalone shell inlay I did for the shiny blue freckles and the eyes.

I like the combination of the hammered and welded bronze and steel heliconia flower with the carved acacia wood sparrow. This was made as a commission for a couple that had been visited by a friendly sparrow on a trip to Hawaii.

I had the honor of being able to design and construct this sculpture at Del Mar Heights School whose mascot is a dolphin. “Leaps and Bounds” features three life sized stainless steel dolphins swimming through a concrete base with sculpted ripples and waves. It sits in front of the school to welcome students as they make their way to class.

The tiger striped pattern on the curly redwood reminded me of the patterning on wahoo and inspired me to make this sculpture. The combination of the beautiful wood with the hammered and welded bronze does a good job of capturing the look of these amazing fish.
