Happy Thanksgiving! Shoutout to the Native American Kanien'kehá:ka (Mohawk tribe). As originators of the Mohawk hairstyle's deep roots (they used it in war) there’s a reason that it became an international symbol of rebellion… it’s a style that inspires us to break away and focus on our own unique paths.

The first time I wore a Mohawk… I was 5 years old and just experimenting with my hair. When I showed our mama, she was so excited and fascinated that her smile, in that moment, is carved into my heart and mind forever as a core memory.

When my sister recently washed my hair, thinking through styles that would work for me, she decides to mold it into a Mohawk.

As I think about the symbolic nature of the style and the moments it made appearances in my personal life, I think about where we are today as humans. I’m grateful for life and so many things, but I feel like we can all be doing more collectively to improve the quality of life for all. Are we going into a future where it’s “every person for themselves” or is the world in need of rebellion so we can unite? I can be asking different questions, but if our heads are what leads us, should we all be adjusting our hair styles?
