I don’t believe EYL or Invest Fest will gain significant support outside of its core Black audience in its current form. EYL has built a strong platform and has done an impressive job organizing a large-scale event, bringing together vendors, speakers, entrepreneurs, and thousands of attendees.

However, there is a difference between creating successful financial content and building a platform that can compete at the highest levels of business, investing, and financial education. If Invest Fest wants to expand its reach, the conversation has to become more sophisticated and inclusive.

My biggest criticism is this: don’t disrespect the same community that helped build your platform. Black viewers, supporters, entrepreneurs, and attendees helped make EYL and Invest Fest successful. You can challenge people, disagree with people, and encourage greater financial responsibility without insulting or talking down to your own audience.

Give your community credit. Educate them. Challenge them. Bring in serious business leaders, investors, operators, and experts. But never forget the people who helped make the platform what it is today.

Some of the businesses in South Africa are closing down; the unemployment rate is higher after they requested all the African immigrants to leave the country.

You can work 40 hours a week for an employer and know a paycheck is coming. As a business owner, you can work 40, 60, or even 80 hours and sometimes not get paid at all.

Yes, entrepreneurship can give you freedom from the traditional hamster wheel, but that freedom comes with responsibility. There is no guaranteed paycheck, paid vacation, or clocking out and forgetting about the business.

Some weeks you work for free. Some months you reinvest everything back into the business. You take the risk, solve the problems, pay your employees, and hopefully build something that eventually rewards you.

Freedom in business doesn’t mean you stop working. It means you’re working to build something you own.

And one rule remains the same:

If you don’t work, you don’t get paid.

A few months ago, Alonzo Hall ‪@socialmediainsurancebro‬ asked an important question: “What is your exit plan?”

He was right.

A lot of content creators built their entire income around YouTube and social media but never developed an exit strategy. They focused on views, subscribers, sponsorships, and ad revenue without asking what happens when the views slow down, the algorithm changes, or people move on to something else.

I’ve been creating business content since 2020, but I never built my future around views. I was documenting my actual business journey. I tried different service businesses, made mistakes, learned, adjusted, and eventually became an approved and licensed provider.

Social media should be a tool, not necessarily the entire business.

There is nothing wrong with going back to a 9-to-5, driving Uber, changing careers, or starting another business. Every industry has cycles.

The bigger question is:

When the attention stops, what do you have left?

Build something beyond the views. Have an exit plan. And most importantly, keep going.

Business courses can give you knowledge and information, but at the end of the day, you still have to execute.

I’ve never signed up for a business course, and I’ve made plenty of mistakes along the way. In fact, I made a mistake just last week—but I learned from it. That’s part of being in business.

Don’t be afraid to go out there, take a chance, make mistakes, learn, adjust, and keep moving.

A business course alone will not make you successful. Knowledge is important, but execution is what produces results. You still have to do the work.
