柴烧珠子“事故”记：让珠子重生的“微创手术”
'Accident' Report: Micro-surgery for a Wood-fired Bead

如果说手作是一场修行，那今天这场修行，大概是近期最费劲的一次。
柴烧独有的火痕和灰釉，是火与土在高温下共同雕琢出的“意外之美”。但它的不确定性也常带来麻烦，例如：用来固定珠子的铁丝，因为窑内高温，死死地烧结在孔道里，像焊死了一样，动弹不得。很不幸，我手里这颗珠子就“中招”了。
钳子剪下去，断头留在孔里。钢丝被切断后，两头冒出来一两毫米，又尖又硬，稍微一碰就割手。按理说，这颗珠子基本可以判定“报废”了。
但我不甘心。那坠子身上的火痕多好看啊，仅仅因为一个孔堵了就扔掉，太可惜了。
于是，我拿出电磨，开始了一场“微创手术”。电磨需要把冒出来的那一小节铁丝磨平。如果力度控制不好，会伤到珠子；磨得不够，铁丝头残留，扎手且难看。我在“清除障碍”和“保护原貌”的钢丝线上，一点点地磨。整个过程，我甚至不敢大喘气，生怕手一抖，珠子就毁了。
终于，铁丝被磨平了，接下来的任务是找那条“生路”。
庆幸的是，对着灯光细看，铁丝旁边还有一个极其细微的空隙。这意味着，这颗珠子还有得救。
我用 0.2 毫米的细钢丝一点点探路。孔太小了，得死死对着灯光才能看清。经过十多次反复尝试，终于穿过去了！
接下来的挑战是：要把钢丝换成线。如何把线带过这个微孔？我将钢丝折弯，顺着已经穿进微孔的钢丝继续探路。又是十多次的反复，两根钢丝终于交汇，顺利带过了一根线。我本想直接用 0.4 毫米的线，可没想到又拉断了，最后换成了 0.2 毫米的细线，才顺利通过。总算松了口气，后面的环节就从容多了。
这颗珠子形状特殊，两头不平且前方凸起，最漂亮的釉面刚好就在凸起处。这种形状不适合做锁骨链，只能做成坠子。孔里残留的半截钢丝难免影响美观，为了遮住这个小瑕疵，我做了一个“遮丑”的决定：先在下方孔口做一个比珠子孔稍大一点的无痕线圈，加上一颗两毫米的红玛瑙打结卡住。底部搞定后，处理上方的孔。由于上方孔口也不平整，我再次用无痕线圈进行协调，再结合 0.2 毫米的细线与 0.4 毫米的主线，交叉做出双向平节作为吊坠扣。坠子主体就这样完成了，最后编上一颗最简单的绳结，大功告成。
很多人问我，为什么做手作这么麻烦？其实，在这动荡不安的年月里，能有一件东西，是我可以全身心投入，把它从零件修复成成品，并最终为它找到出路的。这种握在手心里实实在在的“掌控感”，恰恰就是我给未来的一份期许。

If handcrafting is a form of spiritual practice, then today’s session was perhaps the most exhausting one in a while.
The unique fire marks and ash glaze of wood-fired pottery are the "accidental beauties" sculpted by fire and earth at high temperatures. However, this unpredictability often brings trouble. For instance, the wire used to fix the bead became fused inside the hole due to the extreme heat of the kiln, as if welded shut. Unfortunately, the bead in my hands fell victim to this.
When I used pliers to cut it, the broken ends remained inside. After cutting, the wire stuck out by one or two millimeters, sharp and hard, scratching my hands at the slightest touch. By all logic, this bead should have been discarded as "scrap."
But I wasn't willing to give up. The fire marks on that pendant were so beautiful; it was a pity to throw it away just because of a clogged hole.
So, I took out my electric grinder and began a "micro-surgery." I had to grind down that small piece of wire. If the pressure was too light, the sharp wire remained, which was ugly and scratchy; if the pressure was too heavy, I could damage the bead. I grinded bit by bit, balancing between "clearing the obstacle" and "preserving the original form." During the entire process, I hardly dared to breathe, fearing that one shaky hand would ruin the bead.
Finally, the wire was leveled. The next task was to find a "way out."
Fortunately, looking closely against the light, there was a tiny gap next to the wire. This meant the bead could be saved.
I used a 0.2mm thin steel wire to probe the way. The hole was so small that I had to focus intensely against the light to see it. After a dozen attempts, it finally went through!
The next challenge was replacing the steel wire with string. How to guide the string through this micro-hole? I bent the wire and used it to guide the thread along the path already cleared by the previous wire. After a dozen more attempts, the two wires finally met, and I successfully pulled a thread through. I originally wanted to use a 0.4mm string, but it snapped, so I switched to a 0.2mm one, which passed through smoothly. I finally breathed a sigh of relief, and the subsequent steps became much easier.
This bead has a unique shape—uneven at both ends with a protrusion in the front, and the most beautiful glaze happened to be on that protrusion. This shape isn't suitable for a collarbone necklace, so I made it into a pendant. The lingering piece of wire inside the hole was aesthetically unpleasant, so to cover this minor flaw, I made a "cover-up" decision: I created a seamless line loop slightly larger than the hole at the bottom, added a 2mm red agate bead, and tied a knot to secure the bead. After fixing the bottom, I dealt with the top hole. Since the top opening was also uneven, I used a seamless line loop again to coordinate, then combined the 0.2mm thin line with the 0.4mm main line to make a bidirectional flat knot as the pendant clasp. The main body of the pendant was finished, and finally, I tied a simple knot to string the pendant, and it was done.
Many people ask me why handcrafting is so troublesome. In fact, in these turbulent times, being able to focus entirely on turning a part into a finished product, fixing it, and finally finding a way out for it—this tangible sense of "control" in the palm of my hand is precisely the promise I hold for the future.

柴烧后的“残缺”，是我编绳的“起点”
The "imperfections" left by the wood-firing process are where my design begins.

这颗柴烧坠子，是在火里走了一遭的“幸存者”。经历了七天的火与泥的交融，它拥有了独特的质感，但也留下了不少难题：原本该有的穿绳孔烧结了，不该有的突起却长了出来。拿到手里时，真的觉得这件作品太“不讲理”了。
我盯着它看了几个小时，思考怎么给它安一个合适的“家”。
如果你仔细看，会发现这次我尝试了一个新的结构：我用“佛塔”做底，托住那颗青金石，通过侧面的细缝走线，确保它在正中心位置稳稳不动。由于坠子上方孔道不平整且偏大，我用了一颗小珠子做定位，并特意加了线圈做缓冲，这既是为了固定，也是为了把定位珠藏好——其实就是咱们手艺人的“遮丑”小技巧，顺便把那些粗糙的边缘温柔地包裹起来。
最想和你们分享的，是我这次的一个“坚持”：我没有为了省事把坠子死死锁在项链上，而是设计了一个独立的平结吊坠环。这样如果以后你想换一根绳子，或者想搭配不同的风格，随时都可以拆卸。我不想做一次性的成品，如果一剪线就全散架了，那太可惜。我相信，这种结构上的多花一点心思，对真正喜欢它的朋友来说，是值得的。
每一个柴烧作品都是独一无二的，我想做的，就是把这种火的艺术，变成你们胸前最温润的陪伴。

This wood-fired pendant is a "survivor" that has been through the fire. After seven days of kiln firing, the clay has transformed into this unique texture, but it also came with some challenges: the original stringing holes were sealed by the glaze, and some unexpected bumps appeared. When I first held it in my hands, I felt this piece was quite "unreasonable."
I spent hours just looking at it, thinking about how to build a proper "home" for it.
If you look closely, you’ll see the structure I designed for it: I used a "Buddha tower" bead as a base to support the lapis lazuli, running the thread through the side crevices to ensure it stays perfectly centered. Since the hole at the top was uneven and a bit too wide, I used a tiny bead as a stopper, adding extra loops to cushion it. This is a little artisan’s trick to "hide the flaws" while gently wrapping those rough edges.
What I want to share most is my "persistence" in this design: I didn't take the easy way out by tying the pendant permanently to the necklace. Instead, I designed an independent macrame loop. This way, if you ever want to change the cord or switch up your style, you can do it anytime without the whole piece falling apart. I believe this extra thought is worth it for those who truly appreciate the work.
Every wood-fired piece is one-of-a-kind. My goal is to transform this "art of fire" into a warm, gentle companion for you to wear.
