So… 1000XRESIST is amazing. One of the best stories I’ve experienced in years and one of the best ideas for a high-concept Sci-Fi universe I’ve ever seen.

My main take-aways from finishing the game.

Fuck the cops.
Organised religion is a scam.
Asian mothers are terrifying.
Everything is propaganda.
Keep those you love close to you.
Everyone is trying to do the best they possibly can with the imperfect information available to them.

I keep running into issues when attempting to ascertain an accurate picture of Sega Saturn game release dates. Many of the dates I come across on Wikipedia, Sega Retro and even MobyGames all differ between sites and many of the ones that are consistent across multiple databases and wikis appear to be unsubstantiated by any reliable real world sources. As a result it is becoming difficult to order games for upcoming episodes. So I have decided to make use of "last modified" dates visible on Saturn disc images to estimate release dates for games that lack reliable sources.

If we accept that games used to "go gold" when they received their final update before manufacturing, then it's fair to assume the file with the latest "last modified" date on the disc represents an accurate date and time of when a game went "gold". Depending on the publisher and the number of copies ordered to be made, the manufacturing and distribution process could be anything from 4 to 8 weeks though the norm would more likely be 6 to 8 weeks as realistically the only publisher who would've been able to rush a game to market in only a month would've been SEGA themselves. Something they did only a few times during the Saturn's lifetime.

"So what does this mean for Ranking of Saturn?" I hear you all collectively saying. Well using the available disc dates and cross-referencing those with all of the recorded release dates on the major wiki sites I use, I have re-ordered the remaining games for hopefully the final time. Some games were brought forward to appear on sooner videos and some were significantly pushed back to much later videos than originally planned.

I'll talk more about this maddening chain of events and slow process of fixing it on the next episode of Ranking of Saturn, due to come out next week. (Sorry for the delay.)

Ranking of Saturn will return Sunday the 29th!

Episode 48.5 is recorded and I'm feeling better mentally these days. That said, I don't know if I can continue to make this a weekly video series from this point. I'll have to change it to a "whenever I can get round to it" video series.

Due to IRL problems, I've had very little mental energy left over to record a video for this week. Hopefully I can pull myself together just enough to get it done for next week. I hope you don't mind the brief pause too much.

Hi hi! Quick update, my home internet connection isn’t working correctly right now. I’m getting about 200-300 kbps (bits not bytes) up and down so it’s basically worthless for anything other than text and small images.

I have an engineer coming tomorrow morning to hopefully fix it so I can finally upload my Mouthwashing video. Luckily I upload my Ranking of Saturn videos a few weeks in advance so that shouldn’t be affected as long as they can fix the problem quickly.

I've been playing Mouthwashing, a new indie horror game on Steam and I loved every second of it! I haven't been able to stop thinking about it since I finished it and It's absolutely one of my favourite games I've played all year.

It's an extremely well written sci-fi horror story about how seemingly hopeless situations can force desperate people to make terrible choices... Also it's about the the evils of capitalism but that's every indie game these days it seems.

I want to make a video about it, possibly in the next few days. Strike while the iron is hot I guess.

Got a cheap little USB soundboard, I kept threatening to use one and now it's time! I'll use it tomorrow when I record part 27 of Ranking of Saturn, which means you won't get to hear it until the 13th of October when that video should go live.

I always wanted to try using something like this but no way was I EVER going to buy that Elgato garbage. Never bought an Elgato product that I didn't end up regretting later. Never again.

This lil thing is made by a company called SayoDevice and it seems pretty great for the price. I'm using it alongside Soundpad which is a cheap but powerful little soundboard program. The only thing I'm not super thrilled about is the only way to program this thing is through a web app. It works but only for as long as that website exists.
