my hobbies: crochet, balloon modelling & now I am learning digital animation... they all cost a fortune! yarn costs an arm and a leg & I go through it so quick when I am crocheting something.... balloons are hard to get & cost lots... not to mention tech costs when you need MEGApowerful laptop to even get started... made me appreciate hooping even more! I still have hoops from 18 years ago which I use & they never really needed replacing or anything - if I ever bought any new hoops it was for curiosity not because I needed it... we buy a cheap hoop and it can bring a lifetime of joy & discoveries & wellness! just give us a circular piece of plastic & we are happy for a lifetime!

We’re all born with different ratios of muscle fiber types. Genetics influence around 40–50% of this (including ancestral background). At a population level: people with more West African ancestry often have a higher proportion of fast-twitch (Type II) fibers, while those with more East African ancestry tend to have more slow-twitch (Type I) fibers. This helps explain why some people feel naturally powerful and fast & others seem to have endless endurance. We all have a gift! some of us are fast but do not last that long... some of us are not fast but last longer! 😁

But here’s the part that really matters: Type II (fast-twitch) fibers are the first to decline with age (a process called sarcopenia). These fibers are vital for strength, balance, speed, and protecting us from falls. If you already have fewer Type II fibers to begin with, it becomes even more important to train them on purpose.

If you run out of puff easily, longer sets & active recovery help build Type I endurance. But if you want to stay strong, fast, and resilient as you age: make sure your workouts include strength-based and plyometric hula hoop tricks — bursts of speed, off-balance patterns & dynamic power moves - things that require strength, too

Genetics aren’t destiny. Smart training is empowerment. Every time you challenge speed, strength & coordination, you’re investing in muscle, confidence and long-term independence (not just today, but decades from now 💛)

Did you know I film and edit all of my videos & courses & posts? This year I am also learning properly to animate better and for that I need to learn a lot but I do not let that overwhelm me! Of course I could feel horrible about how slow I am learning and how much more I still need to figure out but I am just focusing on the 1 next step and trying my best. That has to be enough... nobody can do better than their best...
only been learning the basic drawing bits for a few days now and going to keep going learning something new every day
Hooping was a huge learning journey, too and I am still learning! This year I'd been hooping for 18 years!
If you feel overwhelmed or hopeless: please relax, you're not alone. We all feel like that at the beginning of a new chapter.
Feel proud that you got started, celebrate every single step you take and the tiny improvements may feel insignificant sometimes but they add up & can change your life, your body, your mind!
