Nude images of a 13-year-old girl and her friends, generated by artificial intelligence, were circulating on social media and had become the talk of a Louisiana middle school.
When the girl stepped onto her school bus at the end of the day, a classmate was showing the fake images to a friend.
Fed up, she attacked the classmate, a boy on the bus. The girl had no past disciplinary problems, but she was assigned to an alternative school as the district expelled her for a full semester — before ultimately reversing course.
The 13-year-old girl’s attorneys allege the boy avoided school discipline altogether.

Betty Reid Soskin, the oldest serving National Park Service ranger in the country, has died at 104 years old.
Born in 1921, Soskin joined the National Park Service in 2007 as a docent at the Rosie the Riveter World War II Home Front National Park Museum in Richmond, Calif., which highlights the contributions of women during the war.
Soskin retired in 2022 at age 100. Among those who sang Soskin's praises upon her retirement was former President Obama, whom she introduced in 2015 at the National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, which she took part in at age 94.
Meeting the nation's only Black president, Soskin told ABC News, was one of the highlights of her life.
Thousands of people cheered and danced around Stonehenge as the sun rose over the prehistoric stone circle on Sunday, the winter solstice.
The crowds, many in costume, had gathered before dawn, waiting patiently in the cold, dark field in southwest England.
Many make the pilgrimage to the stone circle every summer and winter, considering it a spiritual experience. Sunday was the shortest day of the year north of the equator, where the solstice marks the start of astronomical winter.
A group of alleged victims of Jeffrey Epstein accused the Department of Justice of missteps, including violations of the law, in its partial release of files related to the disgraced financier's abuse of young women and girls.
"The public received a fraction of the files, and what we received was riddled with abnormal and extreme redactions with no explanation," a group of 19 women, including two Jane Does, said in a statement. "At the same time, numerous victim identities were left unredacted, causing real and immediate harm."
