I was listening to Elon Musk talking about how, by 2030, AI could accelerate to the point where many white-collar jobs disappear.

As a parent of three children at university, that’s… unsettling.

I also remember watching Geoffrey Hinton (often called the Godfather of AI) on Steven Bartlett’s Diary of a CEO podcast, half-joking that learning to be a plumber might not be a bad idea. Oddly enough, that gave me hope for humanity.
I’ve always preferred getting my hands dirty — building things, fixing things — far more satisfying than staring at last month’s accounts and pretending they’ll look better if you squint.

Here’s me in 1987 — fresh off a building site, plastering walls with my best mate.

He runs a software company now.

Back then, blue-collar work was frowned upon. Computers, offices, and white-collar jobs were where the future — and the fun — supposedly lived. But like most things in life, the seasons change… just slower than we expect.

Nearly 40 years later, I find myself refurbishing networks, working in IT asset disposal, and recovering real, physical value from infrastructure — work that AI won’t replace anytime soon.

Does the change ahead scare me?
Yes.

But it’s the scary-exciting kind.
And those are usually the changes worth paying attention to.

Wanted: Dead or Still Working - Flash Card from 1992

It’s for a Cisco AGS+ from the early 90s. Might be the key to getting it running again… or it might just sit in a drawer looking smug. We don’t know yet.

There’s no cash reward on offer (sorry bounty hunters), but if you’ve got one, I’ll trade you a vintage computer from my personal stash. My choice, of course… probably a boxed Sinclair ZX Spectrum from 1983 and I’m feeling generous. hoping our friends Phillip Remaker Bill Westfield Kristin Morris Center for Cisco Heritage can help or reach places I cant.

The part in question: CSC-MC+ AGS Flash Memory Card

Assembly numbers: 73-0883-04 or 73-0883-05

Cisco Access Servers — the unsung heroes of dodgy phone lines.

Back in the day, they spread love to thousands of people desperate to dial-in, dial-up, or ISDN their way into the network — whether it was to make calls or send a fax (remember those?).

From the late 1990s right up until 2011, they ruled the market. And believe it or not, some are still out there in far-flung corners of the world, faithfully doing what they always did: keeping people connected when mobile signal was just a dream.

We’re holding a few back as support spares — but give it a couple more years and it’ll be time to let them ride off into the sunset. Until then, they live on… tucked away on a shelf in our stockroom, waiting for their next call of duty.

Contact us for refurbished Cisco access server spares, fully tested and ready to deploy.

This Cisco Telepresence MX800 screen is off to a customer who, we suspect, recently had a bit of boardroom drama. It’s been fully tested, the back and frame resprayed, no dead pixels, no scratches — ready for action.

If you ever need Webex or Cisco Telepresence spare components — whether it’s for an emergency rescue or just a “break glass in case of disaster” spare — think of us as the white knights of the IT world, galloping in to save both your meeting and the environment.

Got a screen down or a system on life support? Drop us a message or comment below — we’ll ride in before the next meeting starts.

Yesterday I actually had an enquiry for an ASA5580 firewall. Cisco stopped pushing updates for these back in 2017!

So you might be wondering: ‘Dave, why on earth do you even have these things in stock?’

Honestly… I’ve no idea! But here I am, sat on a stock position of 2 units. Will I scrap them? Absolutely not. Licences are intact, they’re basically HP servers in Cisco fancy dress, and in working condition they’re like gold dust.

At the end of the day, I’m running a business — and where there’s demand, you can bet I’ll have the supply.

As budget constraints push network replacement cycles further out, good housekeeping has never been more important.

Even in clean environments, dust slowly builds up on air filters. Left unchecked, it reduces cooling efficiency, puts extra stress on components, and quietly shortens the lifespan of critical switches and routers — the kind of costs nobody enjoys explaining later.

A simple, proactive filter replacement helps maximise uptime, extend equipment life, and deliver meaningful long-term savings. (Sometimes the smallest parts really do pull their weight.)

We supply new air filters in small or large quantities for Cisco, Juniper, Brocade, Avaya, Nokia, and most well-known network brands.

Don’t know the part code but know the model? That’s fine — we do.

20 modules, 20 cables, 1 router, 8 switches, 2 engineers, 2 sprayers, 3 refurb techs and 48 hours of total preparation.

All for our wonderful friends in France , who had just won a major contract supporting a huge EU blue-chip client. And yes — even blue chips need to save money!

Instead of buying new, they chose to “spare up” — but with a twist. Used spares weren’t going to cut it. What they needed were refurbished spares that looked and performed like new. Because let’s be honest: nothing says “3am emergency embarrassment” quite like turning up with something that looks like it’s been rescued from the back of a cupboard.

We were (just) above used pricing, but when the stakes are that high, credibility and quality win the day. Every unit was checked for EU compliance, made cosmetically flawless, and delivered on time.

Turns out, having ISO 9000 certification isn’t just a badge — it’s the reason serious customers trust us with serious jobs.

Quality you can trust. Pricing you’ll like. Network equipment supplied the smart way.

Occasionally, equipment arrives with us a little worse for wear thanks to the joys of transit. It happens to everyone. The difference is, unlike most network equipment, it can usually be repaired rather than written off.

We know the assembly codes inside out — which might sound picky, until disaster strikes. That knowledge lets us use compatible platforms from the same product family as donors, getting things back on track quickly. Most of the time, neither our suppliers nor our customers ever hear about it — we wipe our mouths, crack on, fix the darn things, and move on

Missing memory — or the “yesteryear’s memory” variety — is always a headache when trying to load the latest software onto a legacy device. For your convenience, we keep a large inventory of both old and recent memory specs. That way, we don’t waste time scrambling to upgrade a device with memory issues… because, as we all know, time is money (and we’d rather spend it refurbishing gear, not hunting tiny chips.

Where there’s OLD, there’s GOLD! We can turn redundant IT equipment into revenue, letting you sometimes trade it in for network gear without dipping into your own budget. Now that’s a very nice surprise—and who doesn’t love a surprise this time of year?
