This contest feels like the perfect next step in our journey of discovering who we are as filmmakers and people. Our self-funded sci-fi Doritos Super Bowl ad was born from our deep love for filmmaking and our belief that ambitious ideas are worth chasing. That belief comes largely from my father, who unexpectedly passed away this February. He planned to retire this year and spend his next chapter making films with me, helping me take the jump into feature filmmaking. He always told me our greatest dreams are always right in front of us so long as we never blocked our blessings.
Losing him makes this film, One Minute, deeply personal. This film is a love letter to my parents and to anyone who has experienced death, dementia, regret, or a family fractured by loss. It explores questions I’m now confronting in my own life: what remains of the people we love after they’re gone, and can the pain of losing someone ever outweigh the privilege of having loved them?
