The seven years old Heaven, an innocent life, was brutally raped and ultimately murdered by an individual named Getenet in Ethiopia, Bahir Dar.

Despite this horrific crime, Getenet was only sentenced to 25 years in prison. Such a sentence seems grossly unsuitable considering the severity of his crime.

Further disturbing is the fact that Getenet's legal team is making efforts to reduce this already lenient sentence through appeals. We believe that he has the legal right to appeal. However, reducing his punishment will be a clear injustice and not a reflection of an effective, fair, and victim-focused legal system.

In addition to this, we have learned that Heaven's grieving mother is being threatened for seeking justice for her slain daughter. This not only adds to her immense pain but also creates a dangerous scenario for her safety.

We, therefore, demand for the following:

1. A revision of Getenet's punishment to reflect the gravity of his crimes, ensuring it is the highest possible sentence under the law;

2. An institution of robust legal protection for Heaven's bereaved mother.
