On this day, March 26th, 1971, just one month before Sticky Fingers hit record stores, the Rolling Stones played a rare club date at the Marquee Club in London to debut their new material. The intimate show was captured by photographer Alec Byrn, who also took these shots at the soundcheck.

Waiting on a Friend started out as ‘Waiting for a Friend’ in late 1972, during Goats Head Soup recording sessions in Jamaica. The final lyrics were added and the track was released in 1981 on the album Tattoo You.

“We all liked it at the time but it didn’t have any lyrics, so there we were... The lyric I added is very gentle and loving, about friendships in the band.” - Mick Jagger
