ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI'S PRAYER IN PRAISE OF GOD GIVEN TO BROTHER LEO
This is known as St. Francis of Assisi's Praises of God (or Prayer in Praise of God), which he wrote in his own hand on a small parchment sheet and gave to his close companion, Brother Leo, during his retreat on Mount La Verna in 1224 (shortly after receiving the stigmata). The original autograph parchment is preserved in the Basilica of St. Francis in Assisi. One side contains these Praises; the other has a biblical blessing for Brother Leo.
The traditional English text is as follows:
You are holy, Lord, the only God, and Your deeds are wonderful.
You are strong. You are great. You are the Most High. You are Almighty.
You, Holy Father are King of heaven and earth.
You are Three and One, Lord God, all Good.
You are Good, all Good, supreme Good, Lord God, living and true.
You are love. You are wisdom. You are humility. You are endurance. You are rest. You are peace. You are joy and gladness. You are justice and moderation. You are all our riches, and You suffice for us.
You are beauty. You are gentleness.
You are our protector. You are our guardian and defender. You are our courage. You are our haven and our hope.
You are our faith, our great consolation.
You are our eternal life, Great and Wonderful Lord, God Almighty, Merciful Saviour.
This litany-like prayer reflects St. Francis's profound mystical praise of God's attributes. It was given to Brother Leo as a spiritual consolation during a time of temptation.
“The Lord Is Near: A Promise of Hope, Healing, and Joy”
Today’s readings proclaim a message of hope and renewal. God himself comes to save, transforming dryness into life and fear into courage. He strengthens the weak, heals the broken, and restores joy to those who suffer. The Psalm reassures us that the Lord is faithful forever, defending the oppressed, feeding the hungry, and caring for the vulnerable.
We are also called to patient trust. Like the farmer waiting for the harvest, we must not lose heart or turn against one another, because the Lord’s coming is near. In the Gospel, Jesus confirms his mission through deeds of mercy and healing, showing that God’s kingdom is already at work. Those who hold on in faith will share in the lasting joy God promises.

Today, on the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, we honor the deep, boundless love Christ has for humanity. His Sacred Heart is a wellspring of mercy, compassion, and healing—an invitation to draw closer to Him with trust and devotion.
On the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, Pope Leo XIV ordained 32 men from across the world to the priesthood in St. Peter’s Basilica as part of the Jubilee of Priests, commemorating also the Day of Prayer for the Sanctification of Priests.
Reflection on the Solemnity of Corpus Christi – June 22, 2025
Today, the Church celebrates the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, the celebration of the Body and Blood of Christ.
This solemnity reminds us of the Real Presence of Jesus in the Holy Eucharist — not merely a symbol, but Christ truly present among us. In every Mass, we receive Him: body, blood, soul, and divinity.
Corpus Christi calls us to a deeper reverence for the Sacrament, greater faith in His presence, and renewed commitment to live out His love in our daily lives.
May this solemnity renew our devotion and draw us ever closer to Christ in the Eucharist.
“O Sacrament most holy, O Sacrament divine, All praise and all thanksgiving be every moment Thine.”
