Fasting itself isn’t new. It’s been part of cultures and religions around the world for centuries. What is new is the recent boom in fasting in Western health and wellness culture, where it’s often promoted as a fix for everything from weight and energy to sleep and focus. At the same time, the advice can feel confusing, contradictory, and hard to make sense of.

In this new discussion series, we’re on a mission to untangle confusing everyday topics by speaking directly with experts and asking the questions people actually have. In an upcoming episode, we’re turning our attention to fasting for health: what it really does to the body, what’s hype, what might be harmful, and what we still don’t know.
