Technique and breakdowns by World Champion Jonathan Thomas. The goal of this channel is to teach you guys techniques that actually work in sparring or competition. No flashy techniques that don’t work. Every technique I show I use in sparring my self or can reference you to footage of it being used in competition.

Hey everyone — I hope you’ve been enjoying the recent big principle videos on the channel.
I wanted to let you know that I’ve started a Patreon where I’ll be sharing more frequent and more detailed content. This includes deeper looks at cutting edge new systems and principles before I release them public, new techniques I’m working on in the gym, and a lot of sparring footage.
I’ve been wanting a place where I can just teach and explore things more freely — going into the details when they matter, sometimes on YouTube it’s hard to be quite as detailed because of trying to satisfy the algorithm and a wider audience. This is somewhere I can really go in depth on new stuff I’m excited to share.
If that sounds like something you’d enjoy — or if you’ve been following the channel for a while and want to support the work — I’d really appreciate you checking it out.
Thanks a lot, I really appreciate the support.

I think one of the biggest mistakes people make in BJJ is in the way that they drill. I often see people learn a new technique then proceed to drill it 100s of times in the hopes of memorizing it, but the problem is that since you just learned this technique often you will be making small subtle mistakes that won’t be exposed until your opponent applies resistance. This is why when I am “drilling” after a few reps I switch to having my opponent apply light resistance to the movement so that I can tell how it would feel against some resistance and adjust or start to slowly develop an understanding of when the move is applicable and when I may need to try a different technique all together because of their positions. It’s important to understand that all techniques will be performed in an active scenario and drilling with no resistance often enforces incorrect habits that take longer to replace later.

Hey guys here is a follow up video on my 3 initial entanglement grips video I did. In this one I discuss using the belt as a tie up grip with my friend and former Rival Competitor Andris Brunovskis. He is one of the inventors of the worm Guard as well as a long time training partner with Keenan Cornelius JT Torres and a world and pan champ at different belts.
